Anybody running a 255 lph pump in their 6er?

Posted By: cheddar On: 11-21-2009 @ 23:19:40         Reply | Edit
Are any of you guys running a Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump in your 6 cylinder cars?? I realise it might be overkill, but the pump went out of my 95 3.4 car and I got a great deal on this pump. I've got the tank out and I'm ready to swap the pump, but I wanted to see if there might be any issues with putting a fairly large volume pump in this set-up. The car is completely stock, so the high volume serves no purpose what so ever. Should I put it in? The 94 is getting a complete new RaceTronics set up this winter or spring, so I'd like to use this pump now if I can.
Thoughts???

I do. I didnt install it nor have I driven the car since installation but its still in there. It is overkill, even for a turbocharged 3.8, thats one of the last mods you will ever do and only when youve got massive hp. I would keep it though for later!

LOL. I know what you're saying, but I wont be putting it any other car. I had bought it for my 94, but I want to go with 100% new and I want the Racetronic kit in that car. The 95 needs a pump and I will most likely never mod the car and I just need it back on the road running to shut the wife up. So I just want to put it in the 3.4 VS. buying a 200 dollar replacement pump for it. Would that be okay?

Im going to go out on a limb and say "sure". I dont see how it would hurt anything other than making the engine run rich.

Eeeeesh. You think it'll run rich? Might the stock FPR not handle the volume? Maybe I need a larger or adjustable FPR? If it does, then that starts to cut into the cost savings here. Hmmmmmm.

I have one in my car and it works great. Much cheaper than a stock replacement as well.

Baddam, hes talking about installing it on a pretty much stock 3.4 liter Fbody.

It takes ALOT of work to make a 3800 series 2 Fbody reach down into the 10s. So your saying Im going to need to upgrade that fuel pump before too long?

From what I remember, pump will support ~ 600 bhp. So if you be over dat, you runny outta fuele.

pump volume shouldn't matter. It will not change rail pressure nor injector pulse witdth so you should be fine. just because it suprts XXX amount of flow doesn't mean that it will have to run that much all the time.

If memory is correct Walbro pumps are positive displacement, so if your return line or regulator can't handle the volume it can increase pressure on the rail. Doubt this is the case but something to think about.

it still can't because of the regulator control. no matter how much pressure and volume a the rail, the regulator will kick down the pressure and then extra volume will be returned to the tank. Otherwise you would have every regulated car running really really rich at anything other then WOT.
