Hey guys need a quick answer to this question....my car is a 1996 camaro with the 3.8 liter engine, ok i just put a new serpintine belt on today and after driving it the SES lite came on and then it started to flash...the flashing would stop and it would stay lit up and then start flashing again........has anyone here ever had this kind of problem, after you turn the car off the ses lite stays off, also i have noticed that when you accelerate the engine stumbles a bit then picks up (kinda like its not hitting on all 6 cylinders or the spark plug wires are not in the correct order to fire)I havent noticed anykind of backfires and the car starts right up, idles fine when cold and warmed up.....any ideas on this guys??? -- 1995 Camaro,3.4 liter,Automatic,Green Exterior/Tan Leather Interior,Bose am/fm cd player

when its flashing at you it means SHUT IT OFF. very bad to run if its flashing. i dunno what it is but figure it out before you drive like that. -- "If it ain't broken, you're not driving it hard enough."

when the ses light flashes means your car is misfiring --

yeah what blazzin said. It won't hurt it to drive it but you should go somewhere and have the code read. It will tell you what cylinder is misfiring. From there I would have the injectors cleaned first and if the problem still persist then check the plug, wires. I doubt your coil is bad since that rarely happens. -- 94 Camaro 3.4

The engine light will flash when more then one code is stored, That way if you have more then one problem thats its way of telling you. You might just need new wires, check the number 6 wire that runs near the exhaust manifold. That one tends to be the first to burn up. Hope that helps. -- 1996 3.8 Firebird - Hey, Beats Driving an Import

So i could have a bad plug wire ( which i hope are easier to change than the 3.4 )or maybe a plug wire is not hooked up to the right cylinder....thats what it feels like when i accelerate, i did that once before on a 92RS Camaro...had the plug wires off a bit and it ran but ran crappy.....i'll look into this more tomorrow...thanks guys for the advise -- 1995 Camaro,3.4 liter,Automatic,Green Exterior/Tan Leather Interior,Bose am/fm cd player

A SES light that stays on means you have a code. A flashing light means your car is missing, which is right in line with your car's stumble on acceleration. Check your wire connections (coil and plugs) to make sure you didn't pull anything loose when you replaced your belt. -- Deceased 80 Camaro 350 V8 / (sold) 94 Camaro 3.4 V6 -- Rear secton dual exhaust

P.S. A flashing light does not equal "very bad" Just find your miss, and I bet all problems will be solved! -- Deceased 80 Camaro 350 V8 / (sold) 94 Camaro 3.4 V6 -- Rear secton dual exhaust

Its a wire, or a plug. 9 times outta 10 its a wire that gets melted and grounds on your manifold or headers. Happened to me 1 month ago. Scanned the codes and it was #4 cylinder with 3600 Misfires. Pulled off the wire, and WAALA, very slightly burnt on the back side. Replaced, problem solved. Check your wires first, then do plugs if neccesary.

When your light flashes it means its a "hard fault". A hard fault means its happening right now. When it doesnt flash it means that the code is stored in your pcm's memory, and it is not happening at the moment.

to set things streight...
a hard code is a code set in the computers history.
a soft code is a code that is NOT yet in the history but is a current code.
a flashing light means a misfire strong enough to cause catylest damadge...
since you are OBDII you will have set a misfire code P0300 randome missfire ass well as secific cylinder misfire codes..
P0301= cyl 1
P0302= cyl 2 ectectet
this will help to figure oout what is going on
or
you need to check and see if you have spark coming from every coil.. remove a plug wire from the coils one at a time and use a grounded test light while cranking or running to see if spark is moving to it.
if you have one coil with no fire replace that cil pack
if they are all working good you have either a bad plug, wire, injector... or dead cylender.. -- 96 Z28 M6, Silver, t-tops 60k miles.Moser 12 bolt, 33 spline eaton Posi, 4.11 gears, Performance cover, SLP Loudmouth , Edelbrock Torque Arm, Hotchkis STB, PCMFORLESS, LT4 KM, K&N Air Filter,160 degree thermostat, CAGS dissabled, Manual Fan Switch, !AIR, !EGR, MAF Descreen, TB-Bypass FREE MODS coming soon: LPE CAI, 1LE elbow, and who knows what else

well hot damn....i think i'll go with the easiest route first and replace the wires...besides i want to throw in some MSD coils anyways, so i might as well throw in some rapid fire ac delco plugs also and see if that helps out..i sure hope its not a dead cylinder. -- 1995 Camaro,3.4 liter,Automatic,Green Exterior/Tan Leather Interior,Bose am/fm cd player

Had the same thing happen to me. I had to drive my car 3 hours with it misfiring like that and with that annoying light blinking in my face at night.
Ran fuel injector cleaner through the system, still had the problem. Replaced plugs and wires, still had the problem. Replaced the coil, problem fixed.
And whoever said the coils rarely ever go bad, I've had a few people tell me otherwise when I was asking about this problem. --
