Calling all 3.8 fbody gurus.... Posted By: mrcrazyhimself On: 09-06-2008 @ 11:18:35 Reply | Edit Hey guys, i've been on a car hunt for a little while and my price range was around 8000. Now before everyone says go for a V8, In Buffalo its almost impossible to find one with low mileage and that hasnt been ragged on. Most 94 to 97 LT1's have prob seen their fair share of being beat on. Well in other words, I came across on Autotrader a 2000 Camaro with a 3.8 and a 5 Speed. Has around 40k on the clock, power locks/windows, blah blah. No t-tops unfortunately but the price was around 6000. No rust or anything. I've never had any experiance with a 4th gen or this engine. At the moment I commute and drive alot and don't beat on my cars so I figure the gas should be pretty good. But I also don't want a dog engine like the 2.8. I say that because it speaks volumes of the reliability of the car. I do think that the v8 get better gas mileage, but it could just be my driving. that car sound like a good deal. most importantly don't comprise, there is nothing like wishing you had bought something else, t-tops, color, motor, or package --

Anyway here's a summary: lt1 and 3.8 both last forever and like a beating 3.8 is the only v6 thats not a complete dog gas mileage: lt1: 18mpg mixed driving v6: 19 stock 21 intake and exhaust 23 turbo+tune Posted By: stevethepirate On: 07-03-2008 @ 15:44:14 Reply | Top | Edit i really like the 3.8. Its definitely not one of the fastest cars out there... but its still fun! I get pretty good gas mileage in mine. almost 30mpg on the highway! that seems like a good price too. i got my 2002 with 18,000 miles for 12,500 (dealership) a few years ago. you should be able to talk them down a bit too! --

is a very decent price. and the 3.8s aren't complete dogs as far as mileage i got 28 mpg on the highway through a 4.11 gear rear in an automatic with a vacuum leak and like 5 codes lol -- i rock. My Bf has the 2000 camaro v6 5spd. hard top no options. He has $2000 in the car and its salvage, runs like a champ, and its had a rough life. lol I think you should buy it! 40K on the clock that car is a baby still. Before i put the intake on my firechicken with the 3.8 5spd i was getting 25-30 mpg easy all the time. now its alittle less but the car is fun.
