Quite an achievement especially having a car that is so underpowered. must have been that torque!!!

ME-
1992 Firebird
3.1 v6 *4 speed AUTO
140 HP 180 TQ
3500 lbs (with driver)

HIM-
1991 Saab 900
2.1 I4 N/A *5 speed MANUAL
133 HP 138 TQ
3100 lbs (with driver)

I beat him off the line and I stayed in front by about five car lengths. We were racing on the streets up to about 80 MPH.

did he miss a shift or bogg it bad off the line...

i know i raced a turbo jbody car a couple times and he only stuck with me through 1st cuz i fugged up the launch really bad...again that was nearly unmodded, and still learning to drive stick, lol...

in any case, a kill is a kill...

its a possibility, ill probably be racing him again, as he is a coworker and ill see if it was just driver error.

RACE DETAILS
I immediately pulled ahead of him through the intersection and I was ahead by 1.5 car lengths till about 40 mph, my car hit second, and as I approached 60 mph I was about 3-4 ahead...I then shift into D (dunno if you knew this but 3rd gen v6 auto fbodys downshift into 3rd when the gas is pushed 3/4 or more....a stupid gas saving measure that kills acceration! the car hit 3rd and went to about 80, then I let off and slowed down to turn and go home....at that point I was about 5 car lengths ahead.

I have a 2.8 that isn't too far off in that power department, Prob about the same with my dynomax exhaust on. My car has 3.23's stock in it so its not too bad getting upto 50-60 but after that its slow as shit.

lol, i had a 2.8L camaro, got terrible gas mileage and was slow as balls. i was convinced it ran 18 or 19 second quarter mile times. it only had 88,000 miles and was well maintained as well, so it's not like the thing was a piece of shit. but it was.
