How Do You Change (Replace) Firebird/Camaro 3800 Engine Lifters?

How difficult is it? Where are the lifters located? I'm asking this because I'm getting a loud tapping noise on cold starts coming from the engine. As the car warms up it goes away...during the tapping the car has almost no power. I took it to the mechanic and they said it could be the lifters. they asked me to try Lucas Oil first but its been about 2-3 days now and the noise is just as loud or worse...Any info on this HBH? Anyone? Thanks.
