What could it Be?

Posted By: ktmduner520 On: 05-16-2008 @ 23:12:25         Reply | Edit
I have been reading this board for a while just finally got around to making my own account, and need to ask a question about a problem my car is having. My car has always started funny and takes a good 3-7 seconds to finally start, it cranks over just fine but just doesn't start right away. But thats not a huge problem

Latly when I throw it into neutral when coming to a stop of sometimes when taking a turn the RPM's drop really low and most the time the car dies on me or they will drop to 200-500. Sometimes when i see this happen I can push in the clutch and save it from shutting off but that doesn't work all the time its not fun when the power steering shuts off mid way through a turn.

Any ideas of what is the main cause of this? or what I can do to fix it? I think it could be the pcm or maybe something fuel related like the filter and I hope it is not the pump.

Anyfeed back helps
Thanks,
Wesley

This really makes no sense. You push in the clutch to save it from dieing?

Anywho it could be any number of things like the IAC valve or clogged cat. Is it throwing any codes?

Usually if its the pump, it will accellerate like crap. I doubt its the fuel filter, but they are $5 so change it anyway for good measure.

i had mine die twice when i pushed in the clutch, both times were after taking the car past redline at the track, i just figured it was the pcm cutting fuel right as i let off and killing the motor

any codes coming up?
check your fuel pressure and what not while driving.
datalog it if you can.

Yeah it is really weird because it doesn't do it all the times just sometimes and that doesn't make sense because it is not consistant.

The clutch doesnt save it all the time just when I have the clutch in and it in neutral it just drops and goes back. A code was up but that was for the plugs so I changed all of those out about two months ago. Ill scan it again next week just to make sure.

I have now narrowed the problem down, i scanned my car again and it is still having multiple cylinder misfires and is running really rich. I can smell the gas in my exhaust and it smokes I think this is cause my car to die on me because the cylinders load up with to much gas. I can feel it when i drive and it cuts out and sort of bogs on me if i dont rev it up high to clear the cylinders of the extra gas

So far I have changed the plugs again, tested the wires, tested the coils, checked my fuel pressure, replace the fuel filter, and tested another ignition module. all of these things are working fine.

Any ideas of what it could be like a vacuum leak some where or maybe a intake manifold gasket leak?

Any suggestions on what I can try next would be greatly appreciated.

it could very well be a vacuum leak.

are you throwing po171 and/or po174 codes?

i suggest checking out your intake setup to make sure everythings tight and sealed especialyl by the throttle body. check the exhaust manifold for any exhaust leaks. check the egr connection also...that pipe doesn't do too well after a while.

i rock.

No, the only code that comes up is the random multiple cylinder mis fire, Ill try the vacuum lines and the egr sometime this week when I get some time. Its just running really rich I was able to pull a plug today and its already fouled, black soot on it.

Could it be cause be my intakes because I have not got my pcm tuned yet? Too much air?
