a couple problems

Posted By: phenixx95 On: 03-17-2010 @ 09:56:48         Reply | Edit
ok so i just bought a 95 firebird and i go to get a safety inspection and it failed
1. because it has locking lug nuts on the wheels that i didnt know about and the dealer doesnt have the key
2. because the brights dont work the lever pulls back but doesnt click

i was wondering if you guys could help me figure out how to get the lugs off and how to fix the brights

well most any shop will have a kit from snap on that they take a certain adapter and hammer it onto the locking lugs, then they use a breaker bar to get them loose and vwala they're off, oh, and by vwala i mean its a PITA, i dont like doing it.

if your car is like mine, the multifunction switch is broken, and the little plastic tab on it that connects to the metal rod that actuates the brights has broken off, and therefore you're fukked. unless you got lucky and for some reason the rod just came out of its place, but that isnt what happened to mine, so i just deal with not having brights. so if its broke, you need a new multifunction switch, they arrent cheap, ill probably end up going to a junk yard for mine if i ever fix it.

thanks for the quick reply... so how will i pass inspection without brights is there some kinda temporary quik fix and about how much is a multifunction switch and its it hard to install

i would guess the switch is over 100 dollars, if you take the two panels off the side of your steering column (i think its two) you should be able to look inside and see the metal rod and if it is attached or not, if the switch is broken maybe you could redneckrig the bar with a small pair of locking needle nose pliers and use them to activate the brights, hah, but idk if they'll let you do that for the inspection. i dont think the switch would be that hard to install probably a couple of bolts hold it in the side of the column.

oh and glad to be of any help, hope you get it figured out.
