there is a wide range of age around here, im 20...

heh, ls2, thats an easy one all you need is

LS2 motor and all accesories including different gauge cluster/speedo
Ls2 transmission (no the v6 will not work)
Ls2 wiring harness
Ls2 kmember
Ls2 shocks/springs
LS2 driveshaft
Ls2 radiator
Ls2 steering rack
Ls2 diff, or stronger rear end of some sort

an enormous amount of tools and experience both working on cars, and theory behind how shit works, um and the ability to fabricate a lot of stuff, and someone to tune the car when you're done...

so, yeah i thought about doing that swap once, looked into it, then never thought about it again. lol

I'm 23, I think the youngest is 16 or 17, and not sure on the oldest.

If you're gonna spend the money for an engine swap, I'd just save up and get an LS1 vehicle and throw some mods on it. It would be cheaper in the long run, and wouldn't take you long to reach the 400 flywheel HP. Unless you just want to do the swap for shits and giggles, then by all means, have at it! lol

thanks man....i had my first kill with it this morning against a camaro...i thought those things were faster

btw, what year camaro did you race?

Just FYI all 93-95.5 camaros/firebirds had the same 3.4L V6. 95.5-02 had the 3.8L V6. 93-97 Z28/SS/Trans Am/WS6 all had the 5.7L LT1 (iron block with aluminum heads), and all 98-02 Z28/SS/Trans Am/WS6 had the 5.7L LS1 (all aluminum)

Oh yeah, and IMO, lose those rims man

i said an ls2 diff or stronger, if you're going that far into a build you might as well upgrade gear ratios which requires a tune for the speedo to be right.

id appreciate not being called a shit head in the future.

i was just trying to put things into perspective for him. and seriously can you tell me you would ever do that much work to a car and not have it dyno tuned?

there were no ls2 fbodys ever made so there for there are no ls2 fbody radiators, wiring harness, driveshaft, springs, ls2 rear ends. the difference between v8 and v6 rearends is posi, no strengh in a v8 rear end just like the v6 rears. why would he need to swap his gauges, they don't go as fast but they will work. steering will still work fine.

bad info FTL!!!
--

Posted By: Storn On: 03-22-2008 @ 18:44:38     Reply | Top | Edit
exactly no ls2 fbody was ever made, so basically what i was getting at is the easiest way i could see to do it, is take the whole front clip of a gto, you know kmember and all and transplant it, trying to use existing bullshit would obviously end up fucking you over and having you either buying custom pieces or making something yourself. the wiring harness would be completely different how would anything that he has for gauges and shit still work if they dont work for the 3.8 to ls1 swap. and even with a 3.8 to ls1 swap the rack and pinion will interfere with the accessories on the ls1. um did i put in there he should upgrade the rear if he was doing a swap like that, yes, i did, why would you put all that power back there to an open diff, unless you're an idiot and just want to blow it up and do it again, better off just doing it once.

we're not talking about carb'd 3rd gens here, a v8 swap on a 4th gen is a lot more than you think it is, maybe you should read up on it like i have and actually look at what other people have done before you go saying what i said was all bs.

that makes as much sense as sticking your penis in a blender. they are completely different cars, but im sure you knew that because you have been reading up on it. the wiring harness is going to have to be cut and your gonna have to sitting down and figure it out with a lot of swearing probably.

and he doesn't need to swap rear ends, he just needs to put a posi unit in there, or a 12 bolt or 9" but those are very expensive.

um and the ability to fabricate a lot of stuff
<---haha dunno how to quote on this forum... heh, got it only took 4 edits...

there are ls2 fbodies out there, it has been done aftermarket, but it would take a lot of fabrication... i dont know how much of the harness you would have to cut if you were able to swap most everything, i mean really it would probably be less of a pain in the ass to swap things from the gto and fabricate them to fit than try and rewire the entire car splitting wires everywhere...hell look at that big block crx, anything can be done, and anyone spending a lot of money on a swap like this would likely have the money for a moser or strange to back it up.

you dont need to go flying off the handle, come on srsly. if anything you should be trying to help out, now you're just making the new guy think this is a forum full of assholes who arrent going to help him...

in any case you bug me, so ima go drive around and let the cut-out soooth...mmmmmmm gotta love fbodies...

what i dont understand is the whole LS2 thing

you could run a 6.0L LQ9 way easier.

even easier than that is an LS1 swap.

BUT even easier than the even easier is to buy a V8 car.

EVERYONE when they get a sixxer wants to swap something. but when you break t down, its not worth it.

mod the sixxer, then buy you a V8.

keep it simple like trent, brent and everyone else.

oh, and Me FTMFW!

there is nothing soothing about a cutout on a v6, it sounds like shit. better then stock but the stock muffler sounds even more like shit.

and where ever you got that quote from he was talking about the wiring harness only. there is no reason cut "cut off" the whole gto front clip as you said. look under the hood of both cars, and you will see. put an ls1 in there with a big cam or giggle gas or both. much cheaper, more parts, and lots of people have done it, so when he fucks it up he can ask for help and more people will have answers.

if hes 18 and just bought a 3.4 fbody, my guess would be that he doesn't have a ton of money to spend on putting a gto clip on an fbody.

and no i wouldn't waste money on dyno tuning a stock motor, once he gets full bolt ons or some kinda of h/c or nitrous of FI then a dyno tune would be in order, until then have one of the guys on here tune it or email you a tune.

Posted By: Fury_786 On: 03-22-2008 @ 20:23:55     Reply | Top | Edit
TUNING ON A 3.4 IS A WASTE OF TIME!

i had one with a full exhaust and a full CAI. plugs/wires etc. and it was slower as hell.

cutouts on a V6 aren't soothing. thats why they are so cool i love how obnoxiously loud my sexxer is.

yea this is my first rwd car ..i was goin about 30 and my 2nd gear pops out sometimes, so when that happened i put it in first (dunno why) and i guess i hit the gas a little to hard and it spun, so i tried to counter steer (not a good idea) and ended up in a yard with my car against a tree ,i bought the car from a dealer as, is no warranty but itll be an easy fix all i can see is i need a new tie rod end and fender.

edit: it was on a turn so thats why i spun
