Transmission shifting.

Posted By: BLACK996 On: 03-12-2010 @ 10:07:23         Reply | Edit
I recently bought a 99 firebird v6 auto, i have read up a little bit about this torque management junk. I am wonderig if that is what cause my rpms to drop, say while cruising in overdrive or 3rd. After the gearshift the rpms will drop once again almost like another shift but overdrive is the final shift. This making cruising kinda annoying when it keeps switching back and forth. or is this the overdrive? functioning on 3rd and 4th gear? maybe this is why i stay away from GM. any help or opinions would be appreciated.. thanks.

its overdrive. its trying to keep your rpms as low as possible in order to save fuel. if you go more than 1/4 throttle your tranny should kick down into the corresponding gear (based upon your MPH and rpms) in order to provide adequate acceleration.

I guess GM has a different way of doing things. an overdrive off of 3rd and 4th? i dont think i have any buttons to disable it? what really bothers me is driving in semi heavy traffic trying to keep up the transmission always wants to shift. also what can you guys tell me about removing the torque management? its a 99 model
