Oil in the Antifreeze/ car overheated/ smoke through the Vents

Posted By: beyondboardskateshop On: 03-21-2010 @ 16:47:16         Reply | Edit
Ok here it goes...
Working on the heater core thing and finding new things:
The car over heated due the heater core leaking all the damn Antifreeze out. Smoke pillowed in through the Vents...and I almost wrecked.
So I go to put some coolant in so I can atleast make it to my driveway. Open the reservoir and there is oil mixed in w/the antifreeze! Where does this happen? I am thinking blown head gasket or a leaky? Any Ideas or someone that can lead me into the right direction.

This sucks Just paid off the car...my first at that..Oh well Thanks again

well, my guess would be you warped one/both of the heads...

how hot did the car get, i was having overheating issues, but the gauge never got over 3/4 or in the red, and i havent had any problems since...

if you have oil in the coolant, or visa versa you're screwed...

I doubt you lost enough coolant into your car that the car overheated as a result...regarless of that, how long did you drive with it overheated? The cause is probably the headgasket.

I stopped the car as soon as it over heated. So it hasn't been driving while it was over heated. I have since taken the heater core out. I know that there has been a little trace of oil in the reservoir for awhile...
here is a list of what I have done so far.
1.) Removed the old Heater core
2.) Replaced throttle Gaskets
3.) Drained remaining coolant
4.) Flushed radiator
5.) Flushed coolant Reservoir
6.) Got new heater core have it installed just not connected yet....next step is the Head Gaskets?

Could the Oil pump be a problem...IE if it is leaking could that be what is putting oil in the reservoir?

i wouldnt think so...

how many miles are on the engine again?

before you start the car back up, i would pull all of the spark plugs, and see if any of them are oil covered or smell like coolant or anything like that...we had a 4.7 in a ram in my shop that overheated and the first signs that the heads were warped were coolant in the oil, and fouled out spark plugs that when changed, would just foul again...

so check your plugs, if any of them are screwed up note which ones, change them, and get everything back together and start it again but not for terribly long, if it runs rough, missing out and such then there is more work to be done...

if your plugs arrent fouled out, you might of just gotten away with a blown intake gasket...

oil won't mix with the coolant. Only the other way around.

So Why did my Anti Freeze look Milky/rust colored

Posted By: HBHRacing On: 01-07-2008 @ 19:05:02     Reply | Top | Edit
Because it wasn't maintained properly, and/or had contamination.

If the car is an auto, is it possible that the cooler in the radiator busted and he actually has tranny fluid in the coolant?

Yes, but it would be frothy and pink.

Yeah it can turn brown if its not maintained properly. I had that problem in my Firebird and Z28 both when I first purchased them, the brown color in the coolant that is.
