STS Turbo

Posted By: ObsidianSixer On: 03-16-2010 @ 01:11:06         Reply | Edit
Hmmm, I have been looking at these rear mounted STS turbos, is it possible to just buy an ls1 or lt1 turbo and just fab the pipes to the engine?

I can play Guitar Hero in my car. You can't.

Here we go again. . .

A turbo is a turbo, they're all the same. The only thing that makes them make and model specific is the piping. So yes, an "LS1 or LT1" turbo will work, but its gonna take alot of work. Then your gonna have to find some one to tune it. Get some more supporting mods before you go Forced Induction of any sort.

Yes, Im with Trent. There is no car specific turbo. The only thing that is specific about turbos is how much air can be forced through (piping included) which in turn comes to the next point of how much horsepower is created. That defines a turbo.

Your going to need ALOT of help and knowledge if you are to be successful at turbocharging an LS1.Your knowledge of the engine is going to have to multiply exponentially or at least have access to the information from somewhere else. Make no mistake about it...A turbo will stress your engine in ways that its not be stressed before. Therefore you have to be able to identify where the weaknesses will be in your engine and either strengthen or try to avoid breaking the components. LS1's are not known for being able to handle massive amounts of boost in stock form....infact most LS1's tend to crap out at about 6 or 7 psi of boost if you have any decent size of turbo.

My recommendation is that you have the supporting mods on hand or installed when you decide that you want to put in a turbo system.

And my last comment for this post....You have no idea just how much fun a turbocharged car can be! Feeling the turbo kick in is just an awesome feeling!

Why in the world would I ever want to downgrade to a V8?
