My old transmission

Posted By: cypher_2001 On: 03-05-2010 @ 11:04:55         Reply | Edit
A few weeks ago I lost 3rd going home from work. Luckily I have some redneck friends that had an old Camaro with a T-5 that still worked when the engine threw a rod at a 150,000 miles.

Well, they finally cracked the lid on my old T-5 and told me the good news. 3rd gear is completely sheared off on the topshaft, and the bottom gear has half of its teeth missing. Sweet!

Talk to Patrick ("linx" on here and fullthrottlev6). He knows where to get parts to build up the T5.

That aren't the GForce parts? That would make an interesting learning experience.

i just wish i could find a decent used T5 for around 3-400... mine is all fcked up, feels chunky going into first, and then from 1-2, and i have to push all the way right in neutral and back twice for it to go into 5th...something has to be miss aligned in there, whether it be shift forks or the shifter itself, but its my only mode of transportation and i really dont know that much about the T5 or what things should look like inside...

Well a brand new one from GM is between $2k and $3k, I dont remember. That was my 3rd tranny on that car. (97 camaro)

The first one went out because of some jackass fugged up the 2 piece driveshaft(before I bought it) and the bill was just under $3k for all the parts. It had a slight vibration which(on a road trip) wore away at a seal which dumped all my fluid on the interstate and eventually self destructed.

The second one was the crap remanufactured replacement and it went out within a couple months but was fixed for free under warranty.

Then that one went out because a couple of the synchros went bad and I continued driving on it...bad idea.

Hey Storn, Check car-part.com. They have listings for places that have used T-5's for decent prices.

they've got quite a few T5's on there, im almost definitely going to get a used one, but not until mine doesnt work at all, i can half assed drive mine how it is, just i dont think anyone else could...

now im afraid of having fun and hurting it, kinda sucks...cuz its not in the budget...oh well
