Newly Owned Firebird 1996 3.8L

Posted By: Slinky On: 03-15-2010 @ 19:43:10         Reply | Edit
Hey guys im brand new to the site and i got a magnaflow system, an SLP cold air intake and im seeking new stuff to get for it on my 1996 firebird. I also have 373 gears in it. If anyone knows of anything i can put on there post up here and give me a link or something i can buy it from, im trying to keep the F-body a respected sexy reputation. After all, all us sexy beast who drive them gotta stay pimpin.

Edit: My home boy has got a Ls-1 and he talks alot fo shit, i told him after im done with him i want to race him in the quarter for like 500 bucks, so help me out and i will love you forever. He thinks V6s are a waste of time. I know thats not true. F*** those v-8 owners.

well bro...your gonna need nitrous or a turbo to beat an LS1 with a deccent driver. ive got a pretty modded V6, and it will hang with Lt1's but not too many LSx cars.

BTW welcome to the site!

If he is stock, a basic turbo or s/c kit or a good heads/cam setup and the driver mod you will run with him in the 1/4...but expect to spend $3k - $4k+ just to hang with him. There are several 12 second v6 guys, but they have dumped tons of money into their cars. We have a 440hp v6 on this site and another guy that is pushing around 600hp right now. There is a 9.0 second car that has 810hp at the wheels, but its a pure race car

Well all thats good and dandy i guess i can set my sights on the LT1 for now. So is there a link you can post that will let me see the turbo or what not for my car? I just need the guidance.

Btw: If i get new headers will that increase performance at all? And does anyone know where i can find a power programmer?

Posted By: crunkmaro On: 08-18-2007 @ 14:51:24     Reply | Top | Edit
screw the power programmer...its pretty much useless.

your better off getting the obvious...
headers + catback (idk if you have the muifflers or a catback)
get some nitrous and that'll give you an edge...

I heard nitrous really fucks up your engine man and i dont want to bust up this car. I do have a catback though and its alright.. Just i thought maybe you guys would know some of the tricks to the trade to make it more "sporty". You know, like pulleys or some shit. If you know of anything give me a link and let me check it out, help a brother out.

P&P upper and lower intake
heads/cam
shift kit and stall if its an auto, new clutch and short throw if its a stick.
posi (if you don't already have it)
turbo/Supercharger
Nitrous
torque arm, LCA, STB, new springs & struts.

That should be a pretty good start right there

Everything can fuck your engine up. Nitrous is no more dangerous than doing any other modification to your car as long as you use it wisely.

Pulley's are useless on these cars...huge waste of money.

nitrous is nothing to be scared of, as long as you do it the right way.

however, anyone whos new to cars and modding them, would want to start with the easy stuff first.

All I had was intake and I felt a difference. Smoother idle and much smoother acceleration and helps top end a bit. With your mods I bet you'd feel it a little more.

Come on man I don't have a V6 to put this on!

Oh I didn't see your other response. Where did you find an ignition system cheaper brand new? No way it could be a DIS-4 with interfaces. No way!
