nothing with my car is ever easy!

Posted By: stevethepirate On: 03-11-2010 @ 20:59:45         Reply | Edit
im honestly getting so discouraged. at this point i seriously might de-mod it and pick up a new car (fbody of course)

so my EGR was going crazy last year. i kept replacing the gasket, but it kept blowing out. so finally i took it to a shop, he replaced the whole tube, and it was fine for a few weeks... but it started leaking tonight!

now i got a hood. the paint doesnt match the front bumper, and i dont have time to get back to the shop to have it taken care of. not to mention the screws holding the latch down keep popping out, so im honestly just waiting for it to fly up on me. i also have to practically kick the damn thing repeatedly to get it to shut.

i cant get my WOT switch to stay hooked up. floor it once, and it pops out.

the chrome on my wheels is stripping, and it squeeks as the wheel turns (its rubbing against the rotor)

is this just my car??? do you guys get extremely discouraged?
if i was to take all the mods off, the car would be fine! i think i could get 11k for a 2002 in perfect condition with 35k miles on it. theres an ls1 with 4x,xxx on ls1tech for 10,500....

Let's see. Needs an alignment every 9 months because the bastard put a cinder block in front of my car, as in the rack and pinion that was installed is failing, 2nd, 4th, and 5th gear synchros are gone, including the shift forks in the transmission, shocks need to be replaced up front, squeaks every once in a while, fuel pressure sending unit or whatever makes you get a good fuel gauge reading is bad, A/C doesn't work, etc.

But still daily driven. I wouldn't drive this car or plan on keeping it if I didn't feel safe. As far as things that have gone out from normal wear and tear, this has been an extremely reliable car. Got a nice little shopping list for this year. So stop being a Butt Pirate.

dash is starting to crack....ses light is on cuz of some sensor on the tranny, drivers window sticks going up sometimes, drivers power seat sticks sometimes, pleather seats are a bit worn, and have a vacuum leak somewhere so it cranks for a few seconds before it starts.....other than those things its a great car

'98 Camaro 3800II: flowmaster catback, whisper lid....just got it so im just starting out on mods.

Oil Pressure wont stay up when the engine is warm and car is stopped. Tires wont stick to the road. SES light stays on. Burns oil and fuel like crazy (no smoke yet). Radio on/off knob is busted. Volume controls are wornout. Very loud.

Car still looks great!

Why in the world would I ever want to downgrade to a V8?

Car had a squeaky grindy sound when I turn when im rolling really slow, the previous owner said thats the SFC's? Is that normal?

Car is so loud that something is really rattle/vibraty in the passenger door at lower rpm's under load.

Perfect other than that!

Steve, thats petty shit...just get rid of the egr all together

You guys DO realize that nearly all your cars are approaching or at 10 years old?!?!? These are mostly small problems (except for Kevin's problems...I believe his came from a shotty engine shop)

If you want a solid car that doesnt squeak then you shouldn't own fbodys. They are cheap sports cars...they are the Plymouth Roadrunners of their time(cheap and fast). They aren't supposed to be quiet and perfect cars.

...you have a fbody and you are asking about fuel mileage?

Look at it this way, you will always clean un-recycled air flowing into your engine.

no, gas mileage wil very slightly suffer and it will slightly help hp. The EGR is just an emissions thing. You can program the code out and just block it off.

Actually most fbodys get better gas mileage than most cars on the road. Hell several guys on this board have 4.11 LT1's that still get mid 20's mpg on the highway. LS1's and 3.8's are known for right at or over 30mpg on the highway.

i can get mine to ~27mpg....but i avg 23 cause of my foot....and ive got a nasty rich tune.

but i may end up taking the egr off...i really need to get HPtuners, so i can do all the codes and such myself, without having to get the PCM re-tuned

Ooo...that sucks!

The EGR is little more than a pain in the rear. You can take it off and be just fine.
