Varying RPM's

When i am driving on the interstate at 70 mph the car should be around 1950 rpm. But after the car warms up the rpms jump to about 2200. If i hit the gas they drop back down but the second i level the throttle back out they go back up what could cause this.

ok, well, so its an automatic...
what i check real quick just for s&g is whether or not your brake lights aren't on,if they are, it means your brake switch is stuck, and not letting the car lock up the torque converter...
also, there is a chance that it is just the torque converter clutch switch, it may be getting too hot, when the car warms up and for some reason getting too much resistance in the circuit and not letting it lock up...sort of hard to diagnose over the interweb...
if this is not the case, then more likely than not it is the throttle position sensor, this would be more evident if you noticed it in other gears as well, such as putting it in manual low, or 2 or 3, and trying to drive with you foot at the same position on the throttle, and see if it does the same thing, if it does, then it is probably the throttle position sensor, i dont know what year your car is but most of the time that sensor is part of the electronic throttle control unit, and that isnt cheap to replace... --

it really sounds like either a brake switch, or a torque converter lockup solenoid... --
