Thank you for your time it seems like you have a nice site here. To be honest though I am not a huge car enthusiast but I would be if I had time. I have poured over threads in many forums and have listened to sound clips, looked at testimonies, heard some opinions but at the moment I still do not have great answers so I thought I might ask some questions here in the V6 forum. I've searched the site already but I am incredibly lazy so if you could pardon me a little haha that'd be great.
97 3.8L Camaro Mystic Teal 90K miles almost bone stock. I can not buy a v8 right now because I can't afford it.
Question 1: I would like to get an exhaust system but can not decide. I've seen many reviews and the sound clips and Flowmaster/Magnaflow/Dynomax doesn't seem to get great reviews. I would like the loudmouth but i make two 1,000 mile roadtrips per year and couldn't do it...plus the neighbors would be callin the cops. I do want a rumble though and what i don't want is high rpm crackle pop shit. People have told me only 8's get good sound and 6ers can't avoid the effect but eeh. The hooker exhaust seems to get thumbs up on this website. The borla seems a little pricey. I don't know if the Edelbrock exhuast v6 is even real. No one has posted online a 6 with a GMMG which seems to have a real nice sound on the 8 so idk at all about that. One person said a GMMG-type exhaust could be done yourself way cheaper through this site http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chambered_general_main.html#stainless but i once again do not know for sure. My friend has flowmaster on his 6 98fbird but it's okay. I'm just wondering if you guys could help me with your knowledge concerning the exhaust systems and V6's because most everything online is geared for 8's. I'm not trying to get incredible performance out of my car but some minor increase would be nice.
Question 2: Some woman slammed her brakes in front of me when i least expected it coming out of a parking lot and i barely hit her metal bumper but it was enough to put a dent in the front. It looks like shit so i need a new hood. I've seen many hoods and i like some of them but I think i'm going to go with an SS hood. I don't know whether to get one that would be airbox compatible (can u do that with the 6 or would it take serious work?) or just get one shut and put a fake grill on it. SLP sells the metal SS hood but it's like 1200 and for me eeeh no. I've heard good and bad stories about fiberglass hoods having pimples and waves as well as bad paint matching (my teal paint won't be easy for any shop haha). But i want a nice job done. I am not knowledgeable on carbon fiber hoods (can they be painted?) all i know is that they are light. Does anyone know if, a) you can do the airbox thing with a 6, and b) if i get the SS hood what material and who from for a good deal good material (that won't go to shit)?
I appreciate any help, your responses. These are probably the only two questions i've got besides maybe who has done neons inside their maro and is it difficult? Just wondering but thank you. My apology for the life story.

Welcome to the Forum....
anyhow...
1. Ive personally got a flowmaster cat-back system...it sounds good for the V6, and is not overly loud...although its not the best performing system out there, it can usually be had for less than $200. the next option is an exhaust cutout, its a "Y" shaped pipe that goes in the exhaust, before the muffler. it has a valve which can be opened and closed to bypass the muffler and therefore make the car scream. ive got an electric version of this, which cost me like $165.
2. As far as SS hoods go, fiberglass is what 75% of the hoods are made of. I bought one on eBay for $300. fiberglass is a durable material, and with the right prep work will look as good as the rest of the car. there is no real need for a carbon fiber hood, they are extremely expensive and if you paint it, no one will ever know its CF.
Also, ive got some interior lights in my car...under the dash and seats...they were simple for me, but if you don't know much about wiring, and/or cant take apart you interior to run wires and mount lights, i wouldn't attempt it.
and there are a ton of parts available for the 3.8L engine. the suspension is almost identical to a V8 car too.
heres a couple sites...

I'm just hopin i don't get beefed with a crappy paint job because of the color. i mean white or black is easy but mystic teal haha. yeah i wired my system in my maro and did neons in my jeep but jeeps are easy as hell to do shit on IMO but i was jw about the maro. thanks for the word man, appreciated greatly.

i also have a flowmaster exhaust on my v6 camaro and a cutout that i keep open pretty much at all times. its not THAT loud. i have 4.10 gears so my rpms are pretty high at all times and cruising isn't really a problem...you can hear the wind more than the exhaust.
as far as the paintjob goes...go to a reputable PRIVATE shop. don't go to a maaco cause they plain suck balls (learn from MY mistakes...they dont prep or anything)
for the hood...keep an eye out on ls1tech.com or this site's for sale forums for people selling their ss hoods off of their lt1s and whatnot.
this is what the camaro with an open cutout sounds like...

as opposed to a v8 with open cutout...

Not entirely sure if you can make the SS airbox functional with the angle of the 97 throttle body. Besides, I hate the SS airbox design with as many bends as it takes to get back around to the throttle body, I say just get a regular CAI. -- -1999 Ford F150 XLT
Tinted windows and DEPO headlights, billet grille on the way.
Yep, the Camaro is gone.
