Hydrolocked the engine :(

Posted By: Rg320camaro On: 03-18-2010 @ 03:06:03         Reply | Edit
Yeah, had the car 2 months and already hydrolocked the engine. I'm not too mad though, as it was in my old V6. I'm not quite sure on how he did it, but he obviously didn't keep exhaust flowing fast enough. Anyway, sucks to be him. It kinda hurts knowing that it was mine, but most of the work I did was on the exterior, and some bolt-ons. So as long as the car isn't wrecked, I should be ok lol

I know what hydro lock stands for but Ive never heard of it happening w/o water...so I always hint at the hydro = water. And when a motor does become hydrolically locked its fucked. Its possible that the headgasket could have broke and put so much water in the cylinder that it hydrolocked, but 99% of the time it happens when you suck in water

I have seen injectors stick wide open and hydrolock an engine, but only once.

My guess is it siezed

Clarification: The guy drove through some a ton of water...and apparently sucked in some.

Hooray for Trent having Myspace!

I dont understand why people drive through water. I do it in my truck and thats it...the air box is 4ft from the ground. If I dont know how deep it is, or notice that its more than a few inches, I turn around and go another way if im in anything other than a truck.

I really dont see how you get it in through your intake, even in a camaro, unless you go nose first into a lake. I took the cold air out to use in the Z. Some how some way, when he drove through the water, something must have caught his attention and caused him to either, a) kill the car, or b) push in the clutch and let it idle through. So water basically entered through the cutout. I almost stalled it out one day, I drove through a deep puddle (didn't have a choice) and water was trying to bog the car down. After I made it through, I drove a little bit to get all the water out of the pipe, then I closed the cutout (electrics are so nice ).
