what is the best way to change out the spark plugs on a 3.8L v6 '98 camaro? it looks like it's gonna be a pain in the butt.

not that hard, prolly take 45-60 min, that is if you are doing them on a car with say 80k miles...idk how much harder it would be on a car with many more...

oh, and you can do all of them from the top...

Just did mine on my 01 Fbird... took forever to figure out how to get the damn things off, they were stuck like hell.

Ended up breaking all but one wire getting them off. Found the best way is not to pull by the boot but the heat shield around it.

Too bad it didn't fix my misfire, g/f's dad is doing the coil while I'm here at work.

Plugs not stuck, the boot was stuck like chuck...

The wire would not release from the spark plug, the heat shield is missing some pieces aroung the edge from yanking them off that way heh...

The spark plugs looked terrible, I swear the gap looked almost double the .06

yeah, try to get a good grip on the boot, and just close your eyes and pull. they sell some little tool at autoparts stores that may help you. its just like a little fork that you slip in front of the boot to get a good grip. it helped me with one or two. just make sure your pulling them out straight, and it will be easier. be prepared to have cut up hands.

Bought that tool... Bent it to hell and back trying to get the boot out. Just pulled from the heat shield around it and it came off.

There was no getting it off by just the boot when I did mine, but the plugs looked shot to hell so who knows when they were done last if they even were.

take the shields off if you can. They tend to arc and cause missfires. Back when I had my 97, we couldnt figure out a missfire and the dealership removed the metal shields because they were causing problems.

It can all be done from the top, but it's a pain in the ass. A buddy and I did mine and he was under the car guiding the socket to the plugs, I was doing to wrench work. It was nice having a helping hand under the car.
