Tools Needed:
Grease/Vasoline Will Work
Assorted Metric/SAE Socket Set
3in Extension
Slotted & Phillips Screwdriver
Pliers (To take off hose clamps)
Dont forget the Simple Green and Tuff Stuff to get rid of the Coolant if it's all over you capret!
Parts Needed:
New Heater Core
(59.99 from Autozone)
(PN# 52468039 $164.78 From GM)
50/50 Mix Of Coolant/H20
Purpose:
To replace the heater core if you have dump your cooling system on you passenger floorboard.
How - To:
Step 1 Drain the coolant and make sure you have given the car time to cool down (That heater core gets really hot!) Then proceed to take off the 2 coolant hoses that route to your firewall on the passenger side. Then take out the small bolt thats on the top right of the hoses and remove the bolt from the bracket holding the hoses on.
Step 2 Now before you start digging behind your glovebox You'll need to remove the fuse for the airbag (Dash fuse block)
Next remove the plastic cover under your glovebox. It's retained by two plastic clips and a metal tab towards the firewall. Now you can remove the glovebox by removing the three screws directly under the glovebox, once removed you can open the glovebox and if you pull the side inward you will see tabs that prevent the box from opening all the way. Just squeeze it by that and the glove box is out.
Step 3 Now unplug the yellow SIR connector for the airbag and unplug the connector that has 6 vaccum lines together. Once the wires are out of the way there are 4 screws retaining the heater core cover. Two on the left side and two on the bottom. Once those screws are out pull the heater core cover off (Took some tugging but it comes down)
Step 4 Now the heater core should be exposed. Theres a bracket holding it on the the backside of the cover, remove that bolt and bracket. Now pull the heater core and the plastic piece it's in and shake it down! Once it's down enough you can pull the heater core out and put the new one in! Make sure you use some grease on the hose ends so they are sealed and slide on easier.
Step 5 Reinstallation is in the reverse order of course. It's a Pain in the a** to get everything back up in place but just have paitence (Or a beer) Dont forget to refill your coolant, check for leaks and put the fuse back in for the airbag.
