Parts Needed:
Fuel pump
Purpose:
To change out the stock in tank pump.
Sorry its all in one paragraph but sent an e-mail on this and just copied it here.
How - To:
Step 1 Hey Matt, well this is the pump I went with .It is a motorsport 255 ltr pump. The largest in tank pump i think is avail. It fits great and will dewfinately give you all the fuel you will ever need . Unless you go like some great big mountain motor or something . Will handle around 600 hp I believe. I have used it even with the spray and never had any probs yet. And best of all they are only 183.00! The fun part is changing the old one, but I'll try to make it a little simpler. Firts get a set of stands (regular ones will work)Jack the car up on them around the 6th notch. Putting the frame on them back by the rear. Slowly drop the rear just enough to take the rear down about 6-12 inches, leaving the jack under there. Next pull off the panhard bar, then take the controll arm above that off also. Don't worry the rear is still held on by the lower controll arms and won't go anywhere. Next take off the lower shock bolts and pull the shock off the lower stud. Then lower the rearend all the way down (they will swing on the lower controll arms). Now I think about it i really don't remember but check the brake line it might hang up. Once the rear end is hanging as far down as it will go. now hopefully you have removed the tires. You must now remove the exausty from the converter and swing it out towards the passenger side so that it is completely out of the way of swing the rear down. It will be stretched out side ways under your car. In the drivers fender is the charcoal canister. Remove the panel to expose it and then remove the lines from it that run to the tank. Then remove the scews that hold the filler tube to the fender also. If there is fuel in the tank you might want to siphon it out some way before proceeding. The lines that run to the tank on the frame rail can now be disconnected. (right by the filter) Now you can remove the 2 strap bolts that hold the tank in place. If the tank is empty then there virtually is no weight to speak of. I did this whole damn job by my self! Now is the tricky part. The gas tank is exact oppisite from what the repair manuals will tell you. The tank will have to be pulled downtipping to the right and when it is down far enough then pulle toward the pass side of the car. Enough that the tank will be slightly out side the car and the POS filler neck will still be STUCK in the fender. The reason for this is the fender has 2 lips on it the only one you can see is the outside on but there is one on the inside that it will catch on. And this is the POS part. The fuel tank will NOT come oput the back of the car like you would think , it has to be pushed toward the front of the car enough to clear tha filler tube. (I don't know whay Gm just didnot make it a 2 piece neck but oh well). Once you get it just to where you think "my god why won't this thing fall. Climb out from under the car and on the drivers side stick you head into the fender and you will see why. Take a screwdriver and use it to pry down on the top od the filler neck just to cler the lip on the neck (obout an 1/8th ince or so and WALA the tank should hit the ground. From here it is self expanitory to reinstall. But remember to put the DAMN exaust back on befor you relift the rear end up, You'll be cussing more than you have been allready. Now to the pump . Pull the retainer screwws at the top of the pump out and lift th whole assembly out as one. Now you will notice the stock pump is in its own case. Yellowish color. Take and remove the lines and retainer off to remove the yellowish container. The corregated hose will stay the same shape after removed. Once you have the container off then around the top there is a sealed seam. Use a rozor knife to cut carefull oroud to cut through the glue to remove th lid. Once thru the pump is inside there. Now you will notice the pump isoffset from the factory and the new one is not. You will have to grind away the edge in side the housing so that you can scoot the new pump over to line it up. Once you get it lined up and ready to install the lid. (injenuity time) Get it all ready to reinstall and trial fi the lid before finalizing . Get a tube of super glue and use it to hold the lid together. Once it is set the take a sotering iron and heat it up and then melt the 2 pieces together by makingvertical lines about 1/2 inch apart melting the 2 halves together .(should end up with about 4-6 lines) Now remember it does not have to keep out fuel it is only there to hold the pump in place. Now is a good time to look at everything to make sure you dont lose this pump down in the tank while driving. I thing i used some Zip Ties to reinsure myself. You can also see how these pumps are cooled you have 1 line out to the motor and 1 back to the pump. What this does is sent un spent fuel from the engine back to the container wich returnes fuel to the outside of the oump to keep it cool. Pay close attn to wich wires went where cause you can hook this pump up wrong and it will still sound like it is pumping but it actually is pumping the wrong way. Just remember take your time and everything will work out for ya. Also you might want to check into this but a few people have put a T-REX inline pump on their cars wich the stock went bad and it seemd to work fine and still pull enough fuel thrugh the stock pump. Just a thought! Any more ?'s just ask most people I dont reply to cause of all the typing but in this case I made an exception, glad to help.
I amy just put this on tech tips so I don't have to do it again! lol lol

| try this, lower the rear axle by just removing the shock bolts then lower the tank then remove the carpet in the truck and cut a square hole in the middle about 2 x 2, and wa la you have an access panel, done! |
