Tools Needed:
1. Drill with wire brush attachment
2. Small can of POR-15
3. Spray can of high heat ceramic aluminum colored paint
4. Paper towels & dropcloth
5. 2 paint brushes
6. Plastic cup
7. Stick to stir POR-15
Parts Needed:
1. LS1 Knuckles
2. Calipers
3. Caliper brackets
4. Rotors
Purpose:
Prep your LS1 brakes for install on 93-97 F-Body
How - To:
Step 1
Remove the calipers, pads & clips, caliper brackets, & rotors from your steeling knuckles. I highly recommend you do this before you install these brakes. Grind the rust off the rotors with your drill & wire brush attachment & set them aside.
Step 2
Grind off any loose rust from your knuckles. Pics 1 & 2 show the knuckle (with wheel hub & sensor attached) after being wire brushed.
Step 3
Wire brush the caliper brackets to remove any rust. Stick some paper towel into the holes in the bracket to protect the threads from getting any paint in them. Also cover the rubber on the caliper guide pins. Photo 3 shows the bracket ready for paint.
Step 4
Paint the brackets with the high heat ceramic paint. Photo 4 is the finished bracket.
Step 5
Put some POR-15 in the plastic cup. It is very important that you do not dip the brush into the can of POR-15. It will ruin the whole can. Paint the front of both knuckles with POR-15 & allow to dry. Discard the brush, you cannot use it once it starts to dry.
Step 6
Once the front of the knuckles are dry turn the knuckles over & paint the back with the 2nd brush & allow to dry. Try not to get any paint on the back of the wheel sensors or bolts. Photo 5 & 6 show knuckles after they are painted & dry.
Step 7
Photo 7 shows a finished LS1 Knuckle next to an unfinished LT1 Knuckle.
Step 8
 Photo 8 shows a comparison of LT1 pads (red) & LS1 pads.
Step 9
Photo 9 shows a LT1 rotor (left) next to an LS1 rotor.
Step 10
Photo 10 shows the LT1 Rotor on top of the LS1 rotor.
