Tools Needed:
Wire cutters (dremmel tool is easiest)
Flat head screwdriver
Pliers
Parts Needed:
3 Metal colanders (things you drain water from pasta with, the hand held kind)
Purpose:
Replace your tired black plastic grill insert with a more appealing look!
How - To:
Step 1 1st- Cut the wire meshing away from the rest of the colander. Use wire cutters if you don't have a Dremmel rotary tool. And if you don't have one, buy one. You will use them all of the time, well worth the money, believe me!
Step 2 2nd- Remove your old grill by inserting the screwdriver between it and the facia and gently prying inwards until the plastic mount comes out of the mounting hole. Same goes with the other side. The top mounts are a little more tricky. Use your best judgement, I couldn't get mine off, so I just cut it off, there are 3 of them. The bottom ones just pull straight out, 3 of them also. Now the grill should be off. You should also be very happy to see that your facia has Camaro lettering on it just like the rear!
Step 3 3rd- You are going to have to use your best judgement again on the size of the screens you need for the hole space you need to cover. I used a piece of screen approximately 2.75" by 2.75" for mine. Make sure you measure it yourself before you install. The screens are flexible and you may need a different size depending on the shape you get it into when you install. This is why I said to get 3 colanders and not 2, incase you mess one up.
Step 4 4th- Bend the screen into a cup shape towards you and CAREFULLY install. Make sure you have enough extra to be able to push the edges behind the plastic facia. This will hold it in place. You may want to tape the outside of the holes so that you don't scratch up the paint. You may need to work at getting them in to where they look right. This is the time varience part.
Step 5 5th- You may notice that you have some open mounting holes to deal with. What to do with them is up to you. You can putty and paint them if you are good at body work or just put some plugs or screws in to make it look mounted. Whatever you do, it is worth it!
Step 6 6th- All done! Now step back and enjoy what you have created. And make sure to brag to your friends when you tell them it only cost you about $15 to do compared to the $150 they spent on their inserts!
Step 7 Sorry, picture was to large to put in. I will have pics of my car in the members page in a couple of days if you want to check it out before you do it.
