Tools Needed:
9/32" Socket
Socket Screwdriver
Flat Head Screwdriver
Needle Nose Pliers
1/2" Metal Drill Bit

97+ Console
Wire
Electrical Tape
Purpose:
Upgrade to the nicer/sturdier 97+ console. Included are before and after pics of my 95 Z/28.
**Note: You can remove the front seats first but it isn't necessary. When finished, you will have a small gap between the console & dash & an exposed front bracket from the old console.**
How - To:
Step 1
Use the screwdriver to gently pry the plate in front of cigarette lighter. Disconnect lighter. Remove the retaining pin with the needle nose pliers & pull off shift knob. Lift off shifter plate (disconnect light). Remove the 4 bolts (1 under shifter plate, 1 in space below radio, 2 inside console storage area). Lift the old console just high enough to reach under & disconnect the small, useless light. This will not be used in the new console so you can tape the pin down so the bulb will stay off. Lift console up & remove from vehicle (you will have pull the emergency brake lever up & place the shifter in Neutral).
Step 2
You will see a silver center brace for the console behind the shifter. There is a large hole for the retaining bolt & a small hole for the plastic pin molded to the underside of the console. You have to drill the small hole to 1/2" to fit the new console's larger retaining pin. This pin keeps the console from flexing side to side like the old one.
Step 3
Take the new console, open the lid & pull the coin holder out. Remove the 2 bolts, pivot the shifter plate up, & set it aside. Place the new console in the car. Make sure you push the emergency brake handle through it's opening. The plastic pin will drop into the hole you drilled when it is lined up properly.
Step 4
Use the wire to splice the extra power port into the old cigarette lighter. Reattach the old cigarette lighter to the console.
Step 5
Bolt the console down (1 bolt in the center bracket & 2 bolts in the storage area). Install the shifter plate (attach light) front first & bolt down. Reinstall coin holder, shift knob, & retaining pin.

| I just installed my 02' console in my 95. I ordered the front bracket(from speed-automotive) to stabilize the front of the console. I also tucked my stereo wires under the carpet. It came out clean. |
