Need some help....

Posted By: BBeyer On: 11-02-2009 @ 11:24:55         Reply | Edit
I don't usually post anything since I am normally able to find what I'm looking for through searches, but I could not find what I needed today. I'm not sure how to explain this, but whenever I get on the gas really hard it seems as if I don't go anywhere. I thought it had something to do with my clutch hydraulics or clutch itself at first because I would notice it when I would shift to 2nd and 3rd at very fast takeoffs. Now I have noticed that it does not have to be during shift. I get the problem if I am just cruising in 2nd and get on it really hard. It almost feels as if I am slightly pushing in the clutch. The rpm's are high but I don't really go anywhere. It is not as though it is completely out of gear though since it does still go some.

I am not a mechanic and not great with cars, so excuse me if I am doing a horrible job of explaining.

All of this started after I did a transmission swap from an automatic to a manual. In the process, I purchased a brand new spec 2 clutch and an aluminum driveshaft that I installed during the change. It was a used transmission and I installed used hydraulics at first. I have now reaplaced the entire hydraulic assembly with one of the prebled units from GM, but I am still having the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the clutdh is slipping. When you swapped the trans if you got any dirt or grease on the clutch disc it would slip. If the clutch is slipping you should be able to smell it if you give it alot of gas. The smell is similar to brakes. If your old system was not disengaging properly then this would cause a premature clutch failure. Also if you have a oil leak and no splash shield behind the flywheel oil can get on the clutch disc as well.
