speed sensor

I have a 94 z28,and the trans shifts at 3000-3500rpm no matter how much you let of the gas.I think it would be the speed sensor.Has anybody had this problem before? thanks!

If I remember right, it determines when to shift based on the TPS and VSS so you sound correct to me.

If only there was some way to know if there was something wrong with the VSS...

On a totally unrelated topic, how fast were you going when all this was happening?

I know it was sarcastic, but if you had answered my actual question we'd be getting somewhere. If something is wrong with the VSS signal then it will be seen in the speedometer. That said, the first direct question you need to answer is... "Did you notice anything strange with the speedometer reading since this started happening?"

I don't see how a VSS can fail so that it starts simply reading off. If there is a problem, it should read erratically or stop completely.

Personally I would have started with the TPS, partly because it is a more common failure (AFAIK, although VSS isn't uncommon) and partly because I would have noticed a speedometer having a seizure myself.

The more information you supply, the easier it is to diagnose the problem. Is the car stock, or are there any modifications (most useful info being on transmission, pcm tuning, etc)?

I walk a fine line between being an asshole and actually being helpful, which is mostly dependant on how much sleep I've had. It's usually best just to ignore my sarcasm, because I'm usually headed in a certain direction towards an answer.

This one is stock with no mods, and no the speedometer still works good.
Has this happened to you before or know anybody who has?

Thanks for the help!

I've seen a lot of stuff (including VSS problems, TPS problems, shifting issues, etc) but I don't have to have seen it to figure out a problem. It's easy enough if you know how the instrumentation and works.

I guess there isn't going to be much of a dialogue here. Are you going to test the TPS? Do you know how to test the TPS?

I just tested the tps and that was the problem.
I took it out for a ride after i put the new one in,and now it shifts around 2000-2800.

Thanks again roadrage912!
