Back from the track - Advanced Induction 383

Posted By: RamAir95TA On: 06-15-2009 @ 15:05:45         Reply | Edit
After a soggy start to the day (it down-poured when I was the next car in line, DOH!), I am pleased with the results. Never got any dyno-tuning done, so all runs are on a mail-order tune. Runs were at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA Conditions were hot and humid (85+ degrees, right after the rain), but the track prep was EXCELLENT!

Best run of the day (stupid DSM *ting the bed) -

11.51 @ 118, 1.57 60'

Couple minor bugs though. The trans was shifting into 3rd about 2000rpm early (sucky) and the car is a bit undergeared (3.90s), but I am overall pleased with the results. Once I get some tuning done and fix the trans issues I don't rule out an 11.2x. The 10s remain elusive for now.

For those that don't know the mod list -

With a base mail order tune from Bryan you can easily get 2-3 mph out of her yet on just personal tuning. Dyno may net better results.

Undergeared? Wow AI must have done a heck of a job on that 200cc package for 3.90s to be undergeared. What does she pull strong up to. Mine runs out of pull around 5800rpm is why I ask. Mine are 205cc local ports.

Realy nice results for shake down passes! VERY IMPRESSED!

o yeah what was your 1/8mi time and trap?

Yep, still 4L60E.

Cam is comparable to Comps XE 236/242 - for a 383 it's pretty mild.

I have the mail-order tune from Bryan as it is, but the car needs to be dyno-tuned as he goes conservative on the tunes (it's quite rich). I have dyno-tuning scheduled for this Friday.

The car needs a 4.30 gear, maybe more, as I was through the traps at 5200rpm with plenty left to go. It pulls well past 6000. 1/8 mile time/trap was (if I remember correctly, I'll edit this when I look at the slip) 7.3 @ 93mph.

Thanks for the comments.

hmmm....? Depending on the weight of the car. 4.30 gear, a set of 10 x 26 slicks...(instead of the E.T streets) high 10's should be obtainable 95 T/A.

I have the ET streets, 26x10.5x15s already. Hooking definitely isn't the problem. I also have a set of 4.30s on the way.

Baby steps though. 11.40s first.

Also, it's a full-weight street car, sans A/C and back seats.

4.30's are ythe heat. I have a set in a ten bolt(i know) and I love them. First gear is very short though

Get to working on that tune. I got over 3 tenths out of mine in the 1/8th mile just working the mail order tune over.

Shift points are a bitch though, as every trans seems to take a differnt time to shift. I would just start inching them up until you get them perfect. Starting high and working backwards sucks. Remeber the value you put in the cell is when the shift will START, the engine will continue to accelerate while the shift is occuring. Maybe you already know this, but I learned the hard way. I think my shift points are set at 6700ish and it completes the shift by 7200.

You've got me all excited to get my crap bolted together and start racing again.

I just posted in the newer thread asking what all you had done to that ta. Now I'm stoked.

I have a very similar setup and I am yet to get to run mine. Its been ready for about a week and just haven't had time to get to the track.

I went to a short track last night and had some traction issues. And only got three runs and to tell the truth I haven't raced in a few years and never been in a car like this one.

Is there any tips you guys can give me to help out. I'd really appreciate it.

Depending on what rearend you have, you need sticky tires above all. All the suspension components in the world don't mean anything without tires. That's easily the key.

I'm using et streets with a ten bolt, lol. Use it til it breaks. I have the 215 AI, AI cam, slightly built 4l60e, edge stall 3k, full boltons, 383 forged, adjustable TA, and LCA's. I went a small track the other night and rear peg legs bad. So I'm saving for a rear.

And I was gonna mention, Bryan tuned my pc also. Shifts at 6500, pulls all the way there too.

You'll definitely want to get it dyno-tuned. Bryan goes rich on the tune, so you'll pick up a few tenths there, undoubtedly.

We datalogged it once and are gonna try to today. Timing was kinda low from our thinking. But air to fuel at wot was pretty close. Only one guy tunes in this area and he's way busy. Can't schedule one any time soon.

I think the guy with me said around 900 at wot. I don't know anything about it at this point. But he said it was fine for now especially wiht a mail order tune. So I dunno. Now you guys can tell me otherwise, lol. I datalogged it for a few minutes this evening and I haven't a clue what any of the stuff means.

What should I look for?

Posted By: 95ttoplt1 On: 07-14-2009 @ 21:13:51     Reply | Top | Edit
900mv is pretty close on the a/f, just make sure they are matched.

If you think the timing is s a little low just start slowly advancing it and watching the knock sensor, or KR. The ECM over reacts to knock as it has to cool down the fire before it can resume normal timing, just keep an eye on that and advance till it starts to retard a little then back it off about 2 degrees.

I would be too afraid to try tuning by myself. Like I said, I wouldn't know what to look for. I have the stuff now to do it, but I'd be afraid to mess things up. lol
