Will a GM Powerglide line up with an LT1 engine block, and if it does can the computer be tuned to use this transmition?

usually if your putting a powerglide in you have a very specific use for it
like extreme drag racing only
and no street
nobody wants 5mpg in a street car

Yes it will, you will need a specific flywheel to fit the converter.

Will this be a drag-only car? What kind of times will you be putting down, and what RPMs will you be turning?

You've never heard of a TH400, and you want to use a Powerglide? Oh man, you have a lot to learn.

Just Google TH400.

I have heard of them, I just wasn't sure if they had transmission brakes for them.

easy 95 T/A he is tryin to learn. Teach him instead of making him feel ....uh less informed. A glide is a great trans for drag racing. The thing maybe 95 was refering to (not to speak for him) but a glide normally takes a lot of HP and torque to work well. You normally need a motor that will turn a lot higher RPM than 7500 to make a glide work well. not allways but they work better with a long rpm band or a big block. with only 2 gears you typicly need a tall tire as well. say something in the area of a 12 x 30 or more. so when you do the math a 7500 rpm max you will more than likely run out of motor long before you get to the end of 1320ft. unless you use a 373 gear and then you might as well walk down. anyway. a trans brake can be had for almost every trans made now so you can get what you want. A turbo 400 uses a lot of power and is quite strong for a small block. you can get a turbo 350 built that can take all the 7500 rpm you can put to it and go faster than with a glide or a 400. the 400 is heavier and uses more power to move the car. If you dont know a trans specialist call Coan, or even Art car for an off the shelf trans that will work great. To any of you who are fimilar with API out of Missisauga Ont. Canada. and are in need of trans that can hold way over 1500HP let me know. Im a dealer for Vic Richards./ Big Brute Automatics. We offer lock up converters with Adj. stall speeds. He builds the world best autos. I'll be happy to hook you up. api-racing.com

I was thinking TH350 as well. Not quiet as strong as a TH400, but probably plenty for what you are trying to do.

Just curious but is this a 7500rpm LT1? I ask as I have one that is slowly coming together with planned shift points of about 7500-7750. I plan on using my 4l60 until it lets go and then going to a TH350.

I know there is a company that makes a brake for the 4l60 too.

yea all the late model stuff has strong parts to use now. Back in the day, you had a choice 350 or 400 and that was it. My grand national used a 200R4 and I could drive it to the track beat the snot out of it running 10.60's - 70's and then drive it home. Even the junk ford aod's can be built to take abuse now.. hell I ate about 5 of them up and finnaly gave up.. 2 years later they are now built proof.
