Looks like my Opti. crapped out

Posted By: dboy2 On: 03-11-2009 @ 17:59:17         Reply | Edit
I've got spark going into the Opti. but doesn't seem to have any coming out. Fuel pressure is good at Shrader Valve. Is it a bad idea to try and only replace the Cap & Rotor?

Thanks in advance.

I did mine the month after I got my car. That was 6 years ago. It really depends. Most people will tell you to do the complete opti, but if the optical setup isn't broken I'd say save the money. If it turns out to be the opti you still have a new cap and rotor to put on it.

But, it's going to be hard to tell unless the tip of the rotor is broken off, if it's the cap/rotor or Opti.

Is your SES light on? If so, have you pulled the codes?

When/if you get the whole Opti, make sure you get a GM replacement. I hear the aftermarkets aren't real good.

I put a cheap Autozone cap and rotor on mine. At the time they were 130 bucks.

Good Luck

if you can afford it I would highly recommend the MSD distributor. it is kind of expensive retailing at around $600, but it is fair superior than a stock unit. It has a screw to adjust ignition timing +/-7 degrees. I installed one on my car last year and have not had one problem with it. it greatly improved my throttle response. That would be the way to go.

ive always used autozones opti's cuz they come with a lifetime replacement. yea so what if you have to replace it a few extra times. it savwes your pocket tho.
