New Exhaust and 1/4 times

Posted By: ScreaminEagle91 On: 10-28-2008 @ 17:18:48         Reply | Edit
Magnaflow catback with a QTP stainless cutout.

With the new exhaust on and about a month of break in (it sounds better every day) I decided to take it to the track. I ran with the cutout closed all four times. I went to Cecil County Dragway in MD, right across the Mason Dixon.

First run
RT .237
60' 2.140
1/8 9.121
1/4 14.098
MPH 99.49

Second run (new best)
RT .155
60' 2.041
1/8 8.901
1/4 13.801
MPH 100.66

Third run
RT .162
60' 2.077
1/8 9.015
1/4 13.989
MPH 99.57

Fourth run
RT .193
60' 2.075
1/8 8.999
1/4 13.902
MPH 100.76

I parked it and was gonna run later in the night, but the track got all gunked up, closing one lane, then opening it back up, then closing again, then closing the other lane. Seemed like every half hour someone was blowin up or breakin something and dumping fluid. There was alot of cars waiting, and it was late, so i gave up the wait. But all in all, a good night, a new personal best by nearly 2 tenths, and crackin triple digits in the trap speed.

^x2, lol.

Good job on the new best! That's the same exhaust I've been looking at getting. It comes in the Thunder Racing performance package which looks like a good deal. Really liking the stainless cutout.

Thanks guys! Its kinda funny what happened. I bought the exhaust, and a lifter started tapping, so i decided to forgo headers until next year and just get the catback on. Well the lifter tapped for nearly two months, and then one day POOF it stopped and hasnt made a peep since. I really wish i had put the headers on this summer, but oh well. My buddy called me up the week the lifter shut up, and asked me if i wanted to go to the track, cause he was bringing his GSXR 750 down. I had a FULL tank of gas, but said what the hell, and went anyway. After my second run, when i came back around to pick up my timeslip, they told me i needed to wear a helmet, so the next to runs i was wearing a Jixxer helmet! LOL I finally bought a helmet last week, so now i dont need to borrow one anymore, but i thought it was odd they let me run at 99 mph w/o a lid, but cracked 100 and told me i needed one. I must have run a half dozen passes at 99 mph too. Oh well, thats Cecil County MD for ya i guess.

^Yeah I wear my brother's old R6 helmet after he went for a spill and cracked the face guard up a bit. Looks real nice if ya ask me and besides that it's not messed up structure wise. Me like.

Since I've gotten my magnaflow dual x-pipe with two round stainless magnaflow muffs, I just love the sound. Best exhaust I've had yet. It does start to sound a little different too after about 500 miles. Strange, I've never realy noticed that before.

Once you get some DR on some Salad shooters your bound to drop .2 off that 60' time and start running around the 8.7 range in the 1.8th. Those are realy good times for your mods too by the way.

Airborne, whats the best way to launch an A4? since you have a 3600 stall, do you stage it at something like 3500 RPM? Will DRs work well with the stock trans and stall? Out of my dozen runs or so, i think Ive pulled a 2.0 60' about 9 or 10 times, and Ill never improve my 1/4 times if i dont launch better. Should I load it up hard against the stall, like almost ready to do a powerstand, and then give it hell at the tree? My RTs are good, and i get the pedal on the floor quick, but i think i can get a 13.50 as is, with a good launch of course.

A 3600 stall like mine still only "brake stalls" to about 2200 rpm at the line and yes I get as much stall out of it at the line as I can without breaking the tires loose(this is with a good DR and good track prep). Usually when you order a TC the stall your ordering is refered to as the "flash stall" not the "brake stall". My converter is a Vigi with a tight STR so it doesn't "brake stall" too high. Back when my motor was stock I used a 3k stall and DR. On a good track day with a track on good track prep and radials set to about 14 to 18psi I'd net consistent 1.80x 60' times. Now with a stall like that you need tranny cooler and hey a tranny rebuild from someone like Frank at CPT will net you a combo that will actually last. Trust me I know(broke the 60E 3 times, check sig.).

I recommend Vigilante, Yank and Pro Torque torque converters. They will run you $700 to $1000 but are worth the money. If you want something quick and more affordable that will get the job done but I wouldn't use with a power adder is Fuddle, TCI, Midwest. All at 3000 to 3400 stall ratings with a 2.0 to a 2.5 STR depending on what your looking for.

A "Race" rebuild from Frank at the link below will take care of you in the tranny department for a long time.

http://www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com/

You have to send the tranny to him and DHL will ship it for ya. Tranny $1k + Shipping/Handling both ways $200 + a nice new non power adder TC $300 + $80 for a tranny cooler and your talking $1600 for a great combo after tranny fluid and all is added in to the $. You do the install yourself or with the help of a friend.

The price you pay going this route is the going total price for a tranny shop to rebuild your tranny with a "stock" rebuild that may or may not be worth its weight on top of the piece of paper that came with it. Long story short, don't use AAMCO($2500 for tranny and with $1k for a "lifetime warranty" and I have a big hunk of worthless tranny still sitting in the old barn and the car runs great now with this new tranny).

WARNING!!! Don't useAAMCO/Raptor Tranny shops!

Looks like Frank's link doesn't work right now. His # is 302-250-1202.

For now I'd recomend a 3k stall and tranny cooler for you on some M/T DR and say high to low 1.8 60' times maybee better.

I have a 93 and with my wide and skinnies and M/T on the rear 4.10 gears, air foil, K&N, gutted cat, Stock pipes with a flow master managed a 13.8 and at i think at 101 or 102 and I didn't have the tires hot enough and to much air. I wasn't transfering weight either. But that in the past Due to all the mods tune up etc. Dude I live in the area and was shocked when I saw you're car in front of the firehouse. I didn't have the car out much this year. It's black with weld drag lites and a 4" flat black cowl hood. May have seen me or not. I need to update my sig. When i ran the car it was the way i bought it I added the hood and wheels and that was it. I bought cheap with a bad opti. It was forsale at the 472 park and ride it sat for a year until i sold my 96ss. I now have a ton of aftermarket parts full exhaust. It runs like a rapped ape. Still a custom tune and some RR's

yo 1993fbody, yes Jennings did the work, and it is damn good work. Its not as easy as you would think to put the cutout in, you have the unbolt the catback and push in it hard as hell. I have the catalytic converter on it now, to keep it emissions legal. Did you run at Cecil?

i am s surprised that no one mentioned this.

the reason that you had to put a helmet on was cause you ran faster that 13.99 not due to the mph

i ran a pb of 14.06 at 104 without a helmet
