Weird Engine dieing problem

Posted By: GREENARROW On: 10-17-2008 @ 11:59:03         Reply | Edit
Ok, my engine likes to die sometimes when pulling into the driveway. It's a manual, so it's like when you push in the clutch and get your foot on the break, it dies. It's not every time I drive, and sometimes not even every month. And it seems to be only when the front wheels are turned on way or the other. I have checked the battery cables, battery, alt & connections. I've checked the deltek system I have, it's all good unless there's something else I don't know what to look for, but I doubt it. It's just so dang weird. Any ideas at all?

Is your EGR Valve & solenoid functioning properly ( NO SES LIGHT) That will sometimes cause a low idle stumble or kill.

If it starts back up instantly and is ok, it might just be carbon build up on the TB blades/bore and the IAC. clean it really well along with the MAF. Unplug the batt for a while to reset the adaptives and try it. Otherwise more complex diagnostics will be needed.

that could be, haven't cleaned the MAF in a while, don't think I've cleaned the IAC ever, but the TB was cleaned not too long ago. Thanks for the info., I'll check that all out.

IAC is a very likely cause. Has it ever happened when stopping at a red light or stop sign? It would be pretty easy to tell if it's the IAC from a datamaster log if you have the capability.

Be careful with the tiny torx bolts when removing them and look up the procedure for resetting the IAC on shbox.com if you pull it.

If you do end up replacing the IAC, make certain that the pintle on the new one is set somewhere near where the old one was.
