Its a good way to damage it from debris and potentially get trash and debris into your motor. But it does increase airflow slightly --

its not worth it dude trust me. yes, it does make a difference. but its really not worth making them as vulnerable as they are without them. --

it does not increase airflow, period. any gains would be from inaccurate readings. --

The one on my 95 was descreened when I got it. My 97 still had the screen. I swaped the housing around the sensor for the fun of it. No difference at all. I wasn't expecting any either. -- 95 Z28, A-4, K&N intake, TF elbow, polished 52mm Edelbrock, free mods, gutted cat, Magnaflow catback, LT4 roller timing set, A/C AIR & EGR del. You can descreen one if you like. Just for your information, the "screen" is there to provide a more laminar flow for better measurement by the MAF. The elements in the MAF contact a very small percentage of the cross sectional area of your air intake. Therefore it's best to have a more even flow throughout the entire cross section. It is nowhere near becoming a restriction in your intake. --

Gains are found because it leans out the mixture which a stock LT1 tune runs overly rich. It doesn't read the correct airflow and gets more air that it should VS the amount of fuel added. This = lean which "can" increase power. But it's completely sporadic and inaccurate and will cause far more harm than good.
Leave it alone. You don't need more airflow anyway. -- Owner of HBHRacing.com Xtreme performance products
