Holy crap the tech forums are dead at this place. To answer your question, the main difference from 93 to 94, is that 93 used a speed density set up to control air fuel mixture, as well as port fuel injection, whereas 94 and up used a MAF and sequential fuel injection. For the automatics, 93 was the final year for the 700r4 trans. 94 swapped over to the 4L60E. 93 was also the final year in which the ECM used a removeable PROM chip. Beginning in 94, the new PCM could be reprogrammed through the diagnostic port. There were also minor cosmetic differences, and probably some other technical differences I'm forgetting. As far as upgrades go, everyone always starts with a cold air intake and cat back exhaust. There are many options available to fit most any budget. Headers make a noticeable gain on LT1s, but are a pain to install. Rear end gears are also a popular upgrade, 3.73s being the most popular for automatics, and 4.10s for 6-speeds.

^ he pretty much hit it on the head, a cat back or cold air intake would be a good start.

I think you mean batch fire vs. sequential fire, the difference being all injectors in a bank firing at once as opposed to individual injectors firing sequentially.

Just make sure you stick with things are are 93 compatible, because there are many differences, most of which are listed. Different fan setup, different trans gearing options, different oil pressure sensor located just above the oil cooler, etc.
