Posted By: cunningham On: 08-30-2008 @ 08:09:47         Reply | Edit
ok, lastnight i was driving my z28 an all of the sudden it just died. i let it sit for a min and it fierd back up with no problem. this went on about three times and now it wont start at all. its deff electrical because it acts like im just shuting the key off. if it was fuel related it would sputer then die.

i replaced the opti this last spring so i dont think thats the problem. any ideas?

a sensor maybe??

if it was the opti it would probably sputer and die. im thinking its the icm or maybe the crank sensor because it will start fine if it cools down

it might not sputter if it was the opti. if you got a sudden signal lose you lose spark all the sudden...i had it happen to me an dmy car randomly died.

its deff. heat related. i changed the icm then unpluged the fans and let it run for a bit. once it got up to around 180 it died. im thinking it the crank sensor

Will a icm off of a 95 car work on a 94? I'm not sure if they were all the same from 93-97. I believe the coils changed over later on to a single plug connection.

icm is diffrent from a 93 to 94 for sure other than that i would go to auto zone website and pull up the diffrent parts for the diffrent years and compare the numbers

when my opti first went out it was 2 weeks after I bought the car...93 Z28.They had just did a tune up,Car hadn't missed a lick while I was driving it,one night I was making a turn and it just died like you turned the key off. I started on it and it would hardly run but got it a few blocks to make it home.pulled cap off and had original cap and button (151,xxx miles).Changed them and it fired right up.Thought problem was solved.About 2 weeks later developed a complete shut down between 4-5000 rpm's.Tried everything sensor's,fuel, electical shorts...nothing,went back to opti and discovered main part of Dist. was worn completely out(where cam drives it)replaced whole Dist.(cap,wires,plugs...all )Ran like a beast...for about 2 weeks back to the drawing board, disovered at night my LT1 glowed like a X-mas tree, thought...ok new wires and everything...then replaced coil, ignition module, redid all ignition grounds, raised coil/module off head with bolts to help prevent heating...nothing...new wires again (Accel 8.5mm) glowing stopped...lasted about 2 weeks, was missing again, ok...new wires (Bosch 8mm)...not even 2 weeks...lol,new wires (MSD Streetfire 8.5mm)...almost 3weeks,getting there finally, Vision MotorSport 10.2mm,been 3months now, and going strong (as it should be!!!)The lesson is just cause it's new or you fixed it don't mean it's still not the problem,it took me all this to learn that..lol hope this helps!
