Electric fans

So i decided that i would try to wire my fans up to a manual switch so i could run them all the time. I've taken multiple electronics classes and wired many things but i cant figure this one out. I wired it from the battery back to a switch and back out to the fans that i ran in series. The weird thing is that i am getting voltage throughout the entire circuit but the fans wont run. If i jumper them straight from the battery they turn on fine. I checked each connection and tested the switch. Everything has the proper resistance and voltage but it wont carry any amperage. I've tried many diffent grounds on the motor and chassis. But they just wont turn on.
So if somebody could please fill me in on something that i missed or how these fans work or what i did wrong that would be ever so helpful. If nothing else i guess i'll just buy the slp fan controller.

I'll see if I can find you a wiring diagram, but at first guess, I'd say they are probably grounded through relays being controlled by the computer and sensors... If you ground them yourself, and then hit the switch, what do you get? -- '88 Chrysler Conquest TSI - 383 LT1 Swap In Progress '06 Silverado 2500HD LT 4X4 Crew - LBZ 6.6 Duramax

i completly did away with the stock wiring....so i was thinking that i wouldn't have to worry about that stuff...i ran new power, switch, and ground so i didn't think anything would cause problems

Hmmm...
I know it should work, as I hooked up a poor mans engine stand recently and used the stock fans... Just ran power to them and grounded them... No problems...
If you can jump them right to the battery and they work, there has to be something wrong with the switch...
Are you running the power for the fans "through" the switch, or using the switch just to activate a relay which passes battery power through...
Some switches won't allow enough juice through to run the fans... -- '88 Chrysler Conquest TSI - 383 LT1 Swap In Progress '06 Silverado 2500HD LT 4X4 Crew - LBZ 6.6 Duramax

The switch says that its rated at 20 amps. I figured that would be enough for the fans but i think you're probably right.

Yeah, that should probably be enough...
I guess you just need to retrace the lines... If you can jump it and it runs, there is definately something inline missing... -- '88 Chrysler Conquest TSI - 383 LT1 Swap In Progress '06 Silverado 2500HD LT 4X4 Crew - LBZ 6.6 Duramax

Yeah but the weird thing is its getting voltage. It doesn't matter any more anyway, the computer is on its way to PCMFORLESS and i have a new 160 thermostat coming from summit, so hopefully she'll run cool now.
