94 lt1 sefi to carb swap?

Anybody have any advice or links? Distributor looks like a major concern. NEED LOTSA HELP!

gm makes a car intake with a hole for the distributor, and an opti delete plate.

You won't be able to fit it in a 4th gen without serious cowl modifications...

If you are doing it for a different car, it's an easy conversion... You just get an intake, carb, dist, fuel pressure regulator w/return (if converting an efi car), and opti-delete, done...

im seriously about to do this. for the moment i was gonna rip a quadra-jet out of a motor at a boneyard, rebuild it. get a dist. and the delete plate but a few questions before i jump the gun.

1) will i need an MSD 6AL box for tach?

2) does GM make the only intake manifold for this to happen? i heard the "angle" is different from LT to a regular SBC.

Im just trying to steer this car off of a computer as far as possible. carb work is so much easier in my opinion. and this may seem like a stupid question but it is a real 1, what is EFI?

here's were I'm at: dumped old intake for GM performance parts LT1 intake, topped with Holley 750 fed through a Mallory 3 port regulator w/return. A Summit HEI distributor to fire it. I replaced the head gaskets while I was in there. a little cowl modification was nessesary for the HEI
but it wasn't to bad. I didn't takle the throttle linkage yet, looks like I'll use a peice of the old linkage and get creative. I'm back tracking now, the thing won't turn over. thought I let the battery run down but don't know. Turned it by hand and it seems OK. I'll let the battery charge and report back later. Any help guys? P.S. Optispark still in, wouldn't make any differece would it?

so its only from GM for the intake manifold huh? what did that run you? other than that im not worried about the rest. for now ill get a quadra-jet 4bbl out of a bone yard and set it up. dist./wires w/e no big deal. but i still wanna know whats gonna run some of the electronics while elimating things. i just want to get all of what i need 1 shot. thanks for input guys.

I wouldnt even bother with the q-jet,you wont gain any performance and the only real reason to switch from EFI is if you have exceeded the ability to make power with it.With a fairly stock LT1 your not even close.Stick with what you have install a bigger cam and reprogram the computer Sad1ST1k

yes but also look at it like this. for me to make more power out of a fuel injected car would be of course a full flowing exhaust, cam, BUT then induction, which is as fallows.

Fuel Injection: (all rough estimates)

-Bigger throttle Body=$250-300ish
-bigger intake manifold=$300+
-Bigger injectors=400+

and probably more things i dont even know/think about at this moment then the carb side.

-Intake Manifold=about the same
-carb= i can get a used Holley 750 from this guy i work with for 150 bones. should be taken apart/cleaned.
-distributor=$100ish

Then add wires and some other odds and ends. The way i look at it now is that im running off of a 2 bbl carb. it just seems that i can get it to breathe alot more air with a carb. easier to work on since all/any motor work i have really done was to carb'd cars. i don't know man.

I definedly see what your saying about staying fuel injected. ATLEAST for now, i can still make power by adding a cam, doing some serious porting of the heads and still make decent power. But from there other than a full exhaust is where i see alot of money coming into play. AND i have a bad MAF as it is. right there could be the distributor.

Thanks for all the input guys keep it coming! im just so baffled at the moment im sick of not being able to drive her. and when i have to have it stumble all the time. Im just at the point where i wanna do it right, once and done this winter.

Adding a carb will not make more power, and its not easier to tune, not to be discouraging but it will be cheaper to upgrade what you have and it will drive better to boot.I ran easy low 10's with my LT1 on stock injectors ported stock heads GM 847 cam and a rebuilt 355.You will spend more money o the carb swap in the long run just getting it to run,The only reason I swapped to a carb was I wanted low 9's high 8's and that is expensive with FI

good call. well that was the cam i had picked out already. and like i said some heavy porting will be in effect for the heads.

as far as induction then, i was thinking about going with with the bbk 58mm tb, not sure about the intake and get a new maf.

Full Length's. true duals 3" (sorry i have to have em, i remember your suggestion from a previous discussion.) and a good tune to some it all up.

and can i guesstimated time/RWHP on this?

thanks for your time guys.
