Rear diff compatability

Posted By: 4thgenrookie On: 08-09-2008 @ 04:03:02         Reply | Edit
New guy here, (Also new to 4th gen) a few ???
1. Will a 96 T/A WS6 3.42 rear end mount in place of a 94 T/A 2.73 rear without any mods?
2. Since I understand neither is a traction control rear end, other than the speedo being off, is there anything that would be messed up by doing this, for example info from the ABS sensors back to the computer?
3. anyone got any idea how much you would pickup in the 1/4 mile with this swap.

Thanks for help guys, one last question (For now!)
Do you change a setting in the computer for the different gears, or do you have to change a gear in the tranny like older cars for the speedo to be accurate?

Your cars speedometer will be changed through the pcm.

Thanks for all the info guys, unfortunately all for nothing at this point.
The guy agreed to sell the diff. to someone else before I could get there...
Just have to keep an eye out on Craigslist for another.
I did however find a used Hypertech programmer for the 94 / 95 LT-1 for $175. The seller assures me he reloaded the original program into his car before he sold the car. Besides, I should be able to plug it in and make sure it recognizes my car before I give him the cash.
I did install the Hypertech 160 deg. thermostat, and an adjustable temp switch for the fans, but if I am correct the programmer should be able to change the fan start temp in the ECM correct?

Yes it does change the temp, and you will be able to adjust for a new gear ratio as well.
