Clutch Time

It's definitely clutch time. I've known my clutch was slipping a for a while. I got on it and it didn't spin through 3rd and I smelled the clutch burning. So I've been babying it every since because I didn't want to have to change it right then. Today I was coming back from town and it felt like it was hard to shift in and out of gears and when I would down shift and start to let off the clutch I could hear it start to grind. So I stopped downshifting, just coasting to a stop and then not taching over 2k if I could help it. If I can get it to last another week or two I should be OK.

Still don't know what kind I'm going to get though. I wanted a good one, but may end up having to get a Zoom or Advance Auto special. I was hoping it would last until my oldest son started Kindergarten. That way I'd have an extra 90 bucks a week since I wouldn't have to pay day care for him anymore.

I'm looking at a ram setup right now. I can't really spend a wad right now. The Ram is 300 bucks from summit.

Harlan did a write-up about it a while back. Get a cheap clutch kit from az, advance, etc. because they all have the LT4 pressure plate and find a decent disc to work with it. I went with the McLeod kevlar and love it. They have organic as well which should be a bit nicer on the street - just make sure one or the other is in stock before you order since your clutch is almost dead. They say the kevlar glazes over when you drive stop and go a lot, but I haven't experienced it.

For less than the 218 from advance and the 99 dollars for the mcleod disk I can get the Ram setup that should come with the LT4 PP. I'm going to double check that though. I should be good with the Ram.

i run the ram powergrip and its very "hooky" yet very streetable. i ran a Fidanza Steel Flywheel and i have no chatter. The HD i was told by PSI (local tuning shop) that you need an aftermarket slave, and will chatter a little, not terribly tho.

I'm running the ram HD in my car and with stock flywheel and haven't had any problems. I don't baby my car and this clutch has about 60,000 miles on it. But it's been 6 years ago since I put it in, so I'm sure it's not the same HD you get now.
