Engine Build Question

Posted By: bignick On: 07-28-2008 @ 12:53:57         Reply | Edit
So I've got a 010 block with a 4 bolt and I was wondering if LT4 heads will bolt up to it, or do I need to get creative and spend more money.
I've had few different people tell me that it will, but I'm kinda having my doubts and I don't wanna sink 10k into a bottom end only to find out the heads wont fit.

LT4 heads will bolt up and work with any LT1 short block. Just make sure you have the correct intake(LT4) or have yours ported to match. The LT4 intake ports are a little higher than the LT1's. Hope that answers your question!

I know they fit on the LT1 block. I got an older 010 block with a 4 bolt main. My concern is that the modern heads won't bolt to an older block.

They'll bolt up just fine, but you'll have modify the heads for normal cooling flow becuase the LTx engines has reverse flow cooling systems.

The link explains how to convert the heads.

normal flow cooling = not worth it more money less hp
reverse flow cooling = more compression less detonation

Whats to gain by converting the LT4 heads for an older use, did you get them cheap and just want to use them?

There are plenty of better heads for the regular SBC that are probable more economical and will produce better power.

900hp out of LT4 heads isn't going to happen with out a power adder.
