Instrument Cluster Issue

Posted By: bigsteveg On: 06-19-2008 @ 06:45:25         Reply | Edit
I've tried to replace my instrument cluster and I'm having issues now...

Note: This is not to adjust mileage, I have that part covered so please don't hijack the thread.

I bought the car about 3 months ago and the tripometer was broken and I heard it could be troublesome or expensive to replace the gear. I found a used cluster for 20 bucks and decided that would be the easiest approach. However, the cluster didn't reset when put into the car. For example, the rpm gauge, temp guage, fuel gauge etc are all off now. The RPM guage started as 2000 and went up, I pushed the rpm guage back to zero and it seems fine.. I'm wondering if I have to do this for the other three guages...

Isn't there a reset somehow for the cluster? I let it sit for about an hour or two with the negative terminal disconnected trying to reset the thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no reset, some one must have pulled the needles at some point. so your going to have to pull them off and get as close as possible when you put them back on.

Easiest thing to do would be to get you a good set of gauges and swap the the odo. That's what I did when mine went out. You can use any other guages, v6/v8, they all have the same odo/trip gear you need to fix it. You can get to it all from the backside of the gauges and swap that out into your stock gagues that hopefully you haven't messed with the needles.
