How bad is it?

Posted By: CammedLT1 On: 06-04-2008 @ 23:07:47         Reply | Edit
Ok so I'm starting my longtube header install, Ive put about 2 and a half hours into it. So far I took the y-pipe off, alt. and brackets off, spark plugs and wires off and out of the way and i started taking the drivers side header bolts out 3 out and then the 4th started then snapped! This is after a 36 hour presoak of pblaster, what do i do now do i have to drill and tap or would it be safe to just leave one header bolt out? Hows my progress btw for that much work? Thanks

seems like your doing ok. I did mine with the tranny out so that made it alot easier.

As far as the bolt goes I would try and fix it. You will have a hard time keeping headers sealed with all the bolts. if your missing one you are guarenteed a leak.

well... i think i did my headers in 5 or 6 hours... the only help i can offer is take everything off lol the driver side was giving me the biggest problem untill i took off that stupid little guard for the plug wires n oil filter housing.... and you most definatly want to drill n tap that one bolt it flat out WONT seal without it

once you remove the manifold, if your luck there might be a little bit of the bolt sticking out. You can try to get some locking pliers on it an get it out. I had to pull me head and use an easy-out.

Then once I reinstalled the head and installed the headers I realized that the bolt hole that the bolt had broken off in(second to last) was not used by the headers... stupid me. But now I have clean heads and new head gaskets iguess..

Same thing happened to me, snapped a driver side bolt, put the long tubes in to see if it would leak. Sure enough about a 100 miles later it started leaking. Try and get something on it, if not you may have to pull the head (I had to). If you have to pull the head what better time to have them port and polished...lol.

Angle head drill, a good ass center punch, A center drill and follow up with a left handed cobalt bit, If you get it center you can get a nice size easy out in it and get it out, If not you can tap new threads if you didnt get it off too bad when you drill
