Nitrous as 105k miles?

Posted By: Formula93_350 On: 05-07-2008 @ 12:54:03         Reply | Edit
I'm thinking about nitrous for my 93 Firebird Formula. Engine is in great shape, runs like a champ. Keeps dead even with my buddies rebuilt lt1.
I'm a little worried though, I saw that NOS offers an LT1 specific kit that pushes 150 HP and couldn't help but think "Wow, I don't think that's safe" hahaha. I looked on summit racing and found many different kits, the onee i'd feel safest with is the Edelbrock 80 shot dry kit.

I know I'm definately doing a dry shot. I just don't know how much to do. The motor is very strong as is the trans.

What would you guys think? 80 too low? Should I go with 150? I'm really worried about motor damage.

I would personally recomend a wet kit. With the wet set up you don't have to worry as much about detonation because you are jetting extra fuel. I think a dry 80 would be fine so long as your injectors are a little higher than stock and you don't have any problems with your fuel pump.

A 150 dry set up is scary to me, but I am kind of a pussy, lol.

im going to run a progressive wet 75 shot with an fpss and a timing box, and my motor is 150k+ miles, you should be fine with a couple degrees of timing pulled and a fpss in case the fuel pump shits the bed.

Edit: BTW take the jet chip out if you plan on spraying.

yea ill pull the chip for sure. how do you advance timing? is there a way to make it so that it only advances when im spraying? also, i read that you have to crank the fuel pressure up, does that mean ill constantly be running rich or is there a way to adjust it for when im spraying only?

DO NOT spray dry

take the Jet and throw it in the garbage.

you can spray 150 wet very safely

Alright, just to be sure, can someone give me a run down of exactly what needs to be done in regards to tuning so that I can handle 150?

make sure that your timing isnt advanced over stock first.

then just install the kit, check your fuel pressure so you can jet it right, and spray. nitrous is so simple....a caveman could do it.
