I was having a problem, that when I would manuely down shift from 4th. to 3rd., the trans. would free wheel unless the converter was already in lock-up. I installed a TransGo Shift Kit w/new TransGo Seperator Plate and TCI Synthetic Fluid and it worked fine for a couple of days, now it's doing the same thing. It really snaps your Neck when it shifts now and all else is fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

The 4l60 e is really not meant to be shifted manuely under power and if you have shifted often under power it wouldnt last long.reason is the trans cannot bring the line pressure up quickly enough under full power unless its left in drive and the computer is calling the shots.Manually downshifting isnt a problem but if you read the manuel it actually tells you when this should be performed like when decelerating from a steep grade. --

Most likely the overrun clutches are worn out. There are only two and they're intended only to drive the engine so the car doesn't freewheel. If manually downshifting is a habit those two little clutches will meet with an early death. A shift from 4 to 3 is probably the most abusive to them because they have to spin the engine up to speed with transmission main shaft. -- Z/28-SS 2362 - M6, ZT posi, TOTL exh, KB DDSC
