overheating

Posted By: Rusty On: 04-30-2008 @ 12:40:21         Reply | Edit
I have a 1997 Z-28 with the LT-1 and it will not quit overheating, I replaced the water pump, the thermostat and the fans are even wired to run all the time with the key on, and yes I have bled the cooling system to make sure all the air is out of the coolant system, what gives! I cant figure it out! I hope someone out there has been there done that and can help me

I had a similar issue. For me the car ran "good" but would overheat and periodically lose all power. The problem, the catalytic converter was clogged. I think the 97's have dual cats, so if one was clogged it might overheat without having total power loss.

I would check the cats before digging in the cooling system anymore. Don't want to spill on the opti.

Yeah, short of air in the lines or in the pump itself, it could have to do with a clogged catalytic converter...

Sometimes air pockets can get caught in the system and not bleed out easily...

Of course, there is the other possibility that your temperature is fine and the sender is just fubar'd...

I have also replaced the sending unit for the coolant and it still overheats quick! I mean it will overheat just letting it warm up and then drive a half a block from the house and the temp rises bad!! It does stop till the temp gauge nearly pegs!!! someone help me out!!

Your coolant is full, correct?

Is there a loss in power, hesitation?

You either have an air bubble some where or your radiator is clogged maybe. Sometimes it's hard to get the air out. I'd completely drain, flush the system, then refill the coolant. It can't hurt. Just follow the refill procedures.

With it heating up that fast it sounds like the water isn't circulating through the engine.

Good Luck

I agree, has to be an air bubble in the pump or something...
