Air fuel help!

Posted By: rdlt1 On: 04-29-2008 @ 21:47:53         Reply | Edit
I'm new to this air/fuel computer stuff,so please be understanding if I seem stupid, but I could use some info.I bought my 95 with a broke transmisson so I had not seen the car running on the road just sitting still at idle. I'm getting readings on my gauge and I'm not sure if they are good or not. It is a auto meter that just has lights and the car idles up in the stoich then when I put it in gear it bounces back and forth betewen stoich and lean. Going down the highway it does the same thing when you give it some gas then it goes to the rich side. The car has a mild cam (.525) with 1.6 rockers, long tubes. The guy I got it from had PCM4 less set up the computer for all the work he was doing on the car. I just do't have anyone around where I live that works on the LT1 cars, so I really could use some input on what I should do.

The car is probably fine, it's the gauge that' doing that. That gauge is a narrowband, and is probably reading off of one of the factory sensors. A narrow band sensor is just that, it has a very narrow range of air/fuel ratio where it actually works wich is in the 14.5-15.0 range or smaller. Anywhere outside that range and the sensor reads super high or super low. The only real way to see accurate AFR is to get a system or gauge that is wideband, and it will probably cost around $300+.

Thanks for the input, I don't know anything about this stuff yet but I'm trying to learn.I have just had the mostly stock motor in my other car with the Zex system so this is a change.
