Question about a friends 96 Trans Am

Posted By: 94fireturd On: 04-12-2008 @ 10:10:55         Reply | Edit
My friend is explaining to me how his trans am it banging out or stumbling at wot around 4500 RPMs. I first said to him its morthan likely the optispark/ cap& rotor. I told him it might just get worse and leave you stranded so my instructions to him where to drive it easy untill he can replace it. I told him it could be comming appart so stay out of high RPMS.

Well he has been driving it for over a month like this and tells me it hasnt gotten any worse (it doesnt bang out or fall on its face untill higher RPMS), but he does think the car is running poorly (i.e. less power driving around town).

Does this sound like a cap & rotor/opti problem?

The car has 117k miles. This guy comes to me for help with his car. Just dont want to send him in the wronge direction and have him waist money.

Sounds like the opti to me. the car just had a tune up dont by yours truly, plugs/wires/fuel filter/ air filter.

I also swaped in a known working ICM/Coil that I had just to rule that out.

Thanks for any help.

check all the sparks and the wires. I had a nasty stumble on my 3.4 motor. Tugged on one of the spark wires and the boot was left on the spark, and i had the wire up near my face.

NEW"used" opti intalled and running great.

I tell my friend not to lean on the radiator or it might break. Ask me what happened.
