LT1 underdrive Pulley

Posted By: 633997 On: 01-03-2008 @ 16:50:31         Reply | Edit
Hey I was curiose about the underdrive pullies out there for LT1's because it seems to be hp for cheap some go for under $100.But some have more underdrive than others so my question is how much underdrive should it have if it will be installed on a car that still has to run a/c,radio etc...to maintain charging characteristics?

Do a search. I think you'll find just as many problems as you'll find people that are happy with it. I haven't read enough positive evidence to convince me that it is a worthwhile mod.

You can't believe everything you read. The HP claims are always ridiculously overstated, and generally don't reflect the fact that unlike most engines, the LT1 has a gear driven water pump, not a belt driven pump. Dyno test on an LT1:

http://www.ws6.com/mod-2.htm

I had the ASP 25% integrated damper/pulley and 15% U/D alternator pulley, and the charging system would not keep the battery voltage up at 800 RPM idle, with any sort of load on the system - A/C, brake light, headlights, etc. You can spend extra and get the March "power & amp" setup with the over-drive alternator pulley, but then you give up some of the 0.7 peak HP shown in the dyno test.

Not worth the aggrevation.

the dyno is only for the crank pulley there is a difference when you put the alternator pulley on along with it.
