Head torque and pattern

Posted By: DAFAIC On: 01-02-2008 @ 03:07:49         Reply | Edit
okay so i found i should torque the heads at 70ftlbs. I noticed my head is leaching some coolant between 5 and 7. I was hoping i could just recheck the torque on the outside bolts and tighten whatever may be loose without pulling the valvecover? Would this be okay or should i pull the valve cover and torque all in a circular pattern at 45 then 60 and then 70?

I would remove them, take them to a machine shop to check the deck. If they are off youcan have them shaved.
New haed gasket, re-install using the correct sequence. 30 50 70 on torques.
Make real sure everything is sitting on the block nice and flat before you start.

I am going to try retorqing sequence and prey thats it. I really don't want to pull the inatke back off since i just did it couple weeks ago and it wasn't done to were i can take it back apart and save the gaskets.

for now the leak seems to have stopped won't hold my breath but found 6 bolts that turned at 70. 1 of those started turning at 50 and 2 of those started at 60 (which one was over the area that was leaking) and then 3 turned at 70 plus the other 3.

Thats a scary thought, keep an eye on them, personally Id pull them have them checked then get a set of ARP head bolts and redo them right.

The pattern its more like a circular patter, starting inside out, a good manual wil show this. I always do a 3 step pattern. I also always RTV the bolts.
