dtc p1441 evap system during non purge

Posted By: preacherrod On: 01-03-2008 @ 17:16:26         Reply | Edit
Help I have replaced the canister, tried 3 gas caps, flow valve, purge solenoid valve and the chev dealer said I needed a egr solenoid and I put a new one on with no results. My hoses seem to be good and my connections.SES light still comes on when I crank it up and go about a half mile down the road. This is a 1996 z28

Mine has been doing that forever. After replacing everything and full service at the dealership. I've given up. I'm getting the code programmed out eventually.

Sometimes those codes can be hard to shake even when everything is working correctly. There was a member or two who suggested holding the battery cables together to make sure the pcm was reset.

Good luck.

how do you program it out

I have a hypertect power module on it but dont think this is a problem because the code is the same as it was before I hooked up the module

The code sets when the vacuum check switch detects a vacuum when the purge solenoid is supposed to be closed. One of the most common causes of this is having the two hose connections to the purge solenoid reversed.

From Shoebox's Tech Pages:

Another problem is a faulty vacuum switch. Have you checked or replaced that?

Again, from Shoebox, look at part #11 in the diagram"

How do you adjust the tension on the serpentine belt on 1996 z

Posted By: Injuneer On: 05-29-2006 @ 20:06:35     Reply | Top | Edit
Yes that is the flow valve

The flow VALVE would be the solenoid. I'm talking about the flow SWITCH #11.

You "adjust" the tension by using the correct length belt. The spring in the "tensioner" maintains the correct tension. Look at the tensioner - from the front of the car, the lowest point of the belt on the passenger side. On the body of the tensioner is a series of marks in an arc. There is a pointer on the part of the tensioner that moves. If you have the correct belt length, the pointer will be between the marks.

Yes i put a new flow switch #11 on it .Thanks for your answers but I still have the light. also how do I know when the belts stretched to much.when it squeaks?

Posted By: Injuneer On: 05-30-2006 @ 09:31:24     Reply | Top | Edit
I guess my writing is not too clear, so I'll drop off after this feeble attempt to help.... the belt has stretched too much when the pointer on the tensioner is not in the correct range. Or, a slipping belt would also indicat this.

Good luck.

Bye Fred.

Preach, your belt is either stretched out or something is leaking on it, which could also make it squeak. Look for leaks, but either way GET A NEW BELT. The cheapies are only like 12 bucks or you could get a gatorback for 20. It takes all of 2 minutes to change it. Think of it as cheap insurance.

check the pruge solenoid ( #7) to see if it's holding vacuum. It's probably not, which means that it's bad and causing the code. Aside from vacuum lines broken/missing/on wrong, this solenoid is the number one cause for this code.

How do I check the vacumm on #7 purge valve. This has already been replaced and the chev dealer said it was good

Just like preacherrod, I have also replaced my canaster as well as the check valve connected to it. I also had the mechanic make sure the hose was clear of any charcoal by disconnecting it from everything and blowing air into it. I replaced part 11 and 7 seen in the diagram. What else could it be?

It could be a nearly 3 year old thread brought back from the grave but I'm not certain.

if the only valve that has not been replaced is the one by the canister you might want to try changing that cant hurt considering everything else is new
