Thinking about a Viper...

Ok, now I know I am going to get ridiculously biased opinions, but hopefully someone that knows something will chime in to. I currently have a 99 WS6 Vert. Minor mods. Since the 2010 Camaro will probably never come out, I am looking into either a 2006 corvette vert, or a 2003-2004 viper. Now, I know stock for stock, a viper has better hp, torque and 1/4 mile times (Driver factored out). And much worse gas mileage. However, I hear a lot of negatives about the Viper. If priced the same, say neighborhood of 30k-35k, which would you buy and why. I will use it as a daily Alabama driver and I will use it for Drag Racing. I could care less about cornering at 80 mph and gas mileage and if GM goes out of business. Also, I'm used to a bumpy and noisy ride (my current vert is noisy and bumpy as hell with the lowering springs). Z06 is not an option to fall back on, I don't want a hard top. So, what's the verdict. ounce for ounce, try to unbias yourselves, what should I get. If you own a Viper, please also get in on this. I'm really torn and could use some input, since I've only owned Chevy's my whole life. -Sorry for the book.

I don't have either, nor have I driven either, but here are some solid, reliable, reviews from actual owners for each car.

Thanks. I realize that these cars are different platforms then we are used to. I think I'll look into some corvette specific sites too to find out more.

If you find a 3rd Gen Viper for low 30s there is something wrong with it. Be careful.
I am going to assume snow is not an issue in AL. But the car also does not do well at all in rain.
There are no major issues to be concerned with as it comes to the 3rd Gen Viper. But... If you want to mod this vehicle it will cost you considerably more than modding a Vette. On the other hand, the Viper will hold its value better than a standard Vette, even more so if they kill it.
Buy whatever gets you blood flowing more and that is within your price range, you can not go wrong with either.

I think the 3rd gens do better all around even in rain. I'm a Viper Tech and absolutely love them. I'm co-owner of a 2001 rt/10. The vette's to me seem more geared towards old people. The seats and heads up displays just makes it feel like driving a luxury car where a Viper feels like driving a race/sports car. --

Even if the new Camaro does come out, who cares? Either one of those options blows it out of the water in my opinion. I'd go with the Viper, myself. Very badass cars! -- Red 2009 G8 GT

LOL sorry to offend you old men out there. I wanted a C6 but the seat was plush and felt NOT like a Vette should. You sit in a Viper and its like sitting in a race car. Not saying Vettes suck just that they stopped feeling like sports cars. --
unlike the song you WILL fear the Reaper !! 2008 93-97 TA Nats custom class WINNER!!
