Hey,
I bought a 4.10:1 gear ratio for a good price and was wondering if it is worth installing or not..I dont do much racing but it would be awesome to feel the extra torque. I believe the stock camaro's have a 3.23 ratio. Let me know your thoughts because not sure if its worht it now.. thanks

It depends on the model camaro (base V6, Z28, etc) and even then there are different ratios. Some came with 2:73's, 3.23's, 3.42's, and some with 3.73's. So depending on what your specific car came with will make it worth it or not. Check your RPO codes out and see what it says. Then base your decision off of that. -- 99 Black Z-28 "Stripper" M6, SS Ram Air Hood, Borla Cat-Back, J&M Strut Tower Brace, B&M Ripper Shifter, Whisper Lid, Tint (50% front, 35% rear) Pics @ http://www.fquick.com/3p0ch

Some late 90's early 2000's Silverado's if I am not mistaken. It may have gone in some other stuff too. What about the 5.83's though, why would you want that? -- 99 Black Z-28 "Stripper" M6, SS Ram Air Hood, Borla Cat-Back, J&M Strut Tower Brace, B&M Ripper Shifter, Whisper Lid, Tint (50% front, 35% rear) Pics @ http://www.fquick.com/3p0ch

5.83 looks to be a blazer code so maybe a front axle ratio? i dunno i also see gv2 as a 3.02 with a corvette so i have no idea --

Front and rear axle ratios are the same. If it went in a Blazer, it would have had to have been an old full size, I don't know of anything numerically lower than a 3.08 in an S-series Blazer. --

you can figure it up by speed, rpm, and overall tire diameter, copy and paste.

I believe you can only go so big without changing the carrier. I have 2.73 in my Trans Am and could only go to a 3.42 without going to a bigger carrier.

I'm running 4:10s in my '96 3.8 bird while I'm building the turbo'd 427 for it...and it definitely makes the car more fun. Highway RPMs aren't too bad either with the 295/40/18 tires in the rear. Just remember that you'll need to re-program the ECU for proper Speedo calibration. And if your vehice is an auto, it will throw the shift-points all out of whack without calibrating it. I use HPTuners and it works great...but add the price of that to your gear swap (roughly $650.00)....or maybe search for a local shop that can do it for you.

I think you can still go 4.10 on a 2 series carrier. I know for a fact you can run 3.73. Just be mindful of what you have right now. The 4.10s may be for the wrong carrier and of no use to you anyway.
Another option for tuning is a used hypertech. They are handy for cheap speedo calibration, swapping thermostats, and changing shift points/firmness. Just don't bother paying full price or using the "power" tune. --
